we are looking for a family (small kids) friendly place, where food is provided as well like Club Med. With small children, we just want a nice place to stay, walk around, maybe some fun things to do on the resort like swimming, miniture golfing, etc. Not into staying in line for hours (so not parks, zoos, etc). Anywhere within 1-2 hours of drive from Los Angeles is OK.

Nope, No Resorts like that.

Private Clubs for the rich - yes.
But nothing open to the public.
I was a guest at the "La Jolla Beach and Tennis Club" a few years ago. It was fabulous ! My kids loved it.
The waiting list to become a member is years long and you need recommendations from members to even have a chance.

I'm not sure about the pricing, but try the St. Regis in Dana Point, Ca. (Orange County.) Not only is it within walking distance to the most gorgeous white sand beach, they will even shuttle you down in golf carts. There is also the Montage in Laguna Beach, and the Ritz Carlton in Laguna Niguel, which over looks the gorgeous white sand beach and you can hear the waves from some of the guest rooms. Also consider renting a beach house, and going to a day spa, or having services come to you.

In the San Diego area, although not an all inclusive (you are on your own for meals), I think Paradise Point would otherwise meet your needs. Lots of stuff for kids to do and all kinds of things to do on the property. It's big enough to have a variety of things to do. I've never stayed there but have gone there lots of times for conferences etc and have always enjoyed the place. http://www.paradisepoint.com/default.aspx?pageid=home

Nothing "all inclusive" but look at Rancho Bernardo Inn, Catamaran in Pacific Beach (hotel on the beach that you can rent and do lots of water sports and can walk around).
