Hunting - June 2007

What animals do you use it on? How does it perform on the game you hunt with it? I would love to purchase one in the future.

We have deer around here in New England, and I need something to go hunting with. The 30-06 is assassination, and the 22 magnum is weak, so I'm looking for something between those two.

The things I care most about are, a max range around 500 yards, and something that doesn't sound like a cannon when it goes off. Any suggestions?

What is the best type of holster for carrying a concealed handgun.

I have to wear a tucked in shirt and a belt because of work.

Half the time it is casual and half the time it is a shirt and tie.

I have heard conflicting reports about the pager pal, and the Smart carry.

Some people like them some dont.

I want something that is comftorble, easy to get to in a hurry, and safe.

The type of gun is not too important as I own several now that my father left me several in his will.

What are your recomendations.

Okay my dad isnt a loser or anything but he thinks guns are the reason that so many accidents happen, and why wars happen etc. I told him that we could go to the range and just try it. He says why would you get satisfaction out of a bullet being struck, the gun powder exploding and a metal projectile moving over 1000 FPS meant for doing damage for a living thing? And I say its just fun. And he just says well some people have fun volunteering for things, and to you that would be extremely boring. And I just cant convince him. I tell him plenty of people my age fire guns. He says well you know what theres something wrong with their parents if they are exposing guns to people 14 and 15 year olds. (Im 15) I am just sick of it. I want to try it once and get it over with, and I cant even do something as simple as that. Its not the guns that are bad, its some of the people holding them that are bad. Was anyone else in the same situation as this? If so please answer.

I am going to be purchasing my first handgun and am wondering what people recommend. I really don't want anything under 9mm and really don't want a hand cannon either because I will be getting it along with my concealed weapons permit. And I really don't want my gun to defeat the purpose of getting the permit!!!

Help me make a smart choice that I will still be happy with in in a few years as my first hand gun purchase!!!

The color WHITE is much more visible and can be seen at a much further distance. I realize that deer have white tails; however, if all hunters were required to wear White clothing instead of orange, they certainily would make sure that they were aiming at a deer instead of their hunting buddy, or innocent hikers, or a mother hanging out laundry.

My mom was talking to her dentist who apparently owns quite a few guns. He was saying that he heard (never tried) that a deflated balloon placed on the muzzle of a gun, would decrease the noise put out by the round. Has anyone ever heard of this or tried it? I am extremely wary of blocking those gases with anything, and I have no desire to simply try it out and see if it works. I want people's expert knowledge on whether it is a dangerous idea, or simply one that wouldn't work. I am really curious, because it does have the potential to be pretty cool.

It is necessary. Many people who are against hunting eat meat from stores and resturants. Most of those animals live sad lives before being slain in a factory. Hunting is humane and very necessary for animals to live. It is important. I know all of you don't want to change your opinions, but if you really think about it, humans are responsible for killing animals. We are more intelligent than them. We should take care of them and controling their population is an important part of that.

I believe that it is a part of our heritage to hunt for meat. I am a meat hunter, but if I happen to take a nice trophy, all the better. I don't think it is any more cruel that what they do to beef or chicken. What i kill does not suffer long. I know the meat I take is fresh. If you think that it is wrong to kill for meat, become a vegan,but don't tell me how to life.

I have always wanted to try black bear hunting up at my camp, and my primary hunting rifle is a Savage 30-06. I was wondering about the performance of this rifle on the bear, and if I should use something bigger. Thanks.

I am just wondering how fast a bear can move/run? I dont care what kind of bear. Black, grizzley, ok i hope you get it. Not like panda bears and all that but the kind of bear you find in the u.s. like down south. I need as acurate info as I can get. This is for a report. What is the difference between all of the different bear? please be as serious as you can. Thank you. Anyone who answers is what the report is based on.
