The color WHITE is much more visible and can be seen at a much further distance. I realize that deer have white tails; however, if all hunters were required to wear White clothing instead of orange, they certainily would make sure that they were aiming at a deer instead of their hunting buddy, or innocent hikers, or a mother hanging out laundry.

"They certainly would make sure that they were aiming at a deer..." Your statement is putting a ton of faith in other people with guns that are looking to kill something. My guess is that you don't hunt. Personally, I will never gamble with my life and bet that another hunter is going to identify their target before they shoot and make sure there is nothing behind the target.

Anyway, there are two issues with the color white.

1. Many game animals either contain the color white or are white. Depending on your location, many animals either have the color white or if you go farther north, some animals are entirely white. When the adreneline is pumping, sometimes people make dumb choices. I consider myself a safe hunter, and I've even made a shot once when I looked back on it, I realized it was a pretty dumb shot.

2. In some areas, during the winter, there can be snow on the ground. As snow is white, white clothing will blend in. As a matter of fact, if you check a hunting catalog (like Cabela's), you can find white outfits sold as camoflauge.

As someone else mentioned, the color orange rarely occurs in nature. Some birds have patches of orange (like the oriole). However, I am not aware of any game animal that has orange in it (there probably is, I just can't think of any). I am not aware of any animal in the world that is roughly human sized and completely orange (while polar bears and some wolves are larger animals and completely white).

White is the worse color to wear while hunting, esp deer. Deer alert and flash their white tails (thus the name) and more than one person has been shot wearing white that 'looked like a deer flashing'. Deer don't wear hunting orange, thus the color. Being colorblind myself, orange blends better into the woods than white. I pick up white quite easily, which means a deer would too. If it was safer I would support it, but the fact remains you want a color that animlas don't have. You want to look as different as possible.

The color orange is more visible. White is hard to see in a lot of situations, and it's too natural. Think of seeing white in the distance early on a foggy morning. Not to mention snow. In my youth, we wore red, and that was a general recommendation. The orange wasn't picked out of a hat. It was tested along with many alternatives and found to be best.

Well, deer are color blind, so they cant see orange as well as white, And id agree with the person above me, deer flash their tail when scared and a hunter might see that and shoot it.

You go in the woods and look for something white, then for something orange. White does NOT stand out. Besides, rifles may shoot several hundred yards. A small patch of orange will catch the eye that far away.

Deer are partially color-blind. They can't really see orange, and people can. Also, some people don't ant to take the time to check if it's their hunting buddy, lol, which is why I don't go hunting with over-excited, might-let-the-gun-go-off-at-any-second, impatient people who would shoot me.

they were that so they stand out no matter what. white is not a good color in the woods orange is bright and not a natural color. plus they will not still out to the deer.

Come, come, now, are you kidding? If that were true, do you really think a mother hanging out white sheets would not be shot? Think about this a LITTLE bit more.

Because florescent orange is typically not found in nature. And you'd be surprised how many people are killed and wounded by idiots who "thought they saw a deer."
