There is no longer such a thing as a "Cheap" K98 anymore. Most people that have them and they are in good shape keep them or sell them for MEGA bucks due to their high collectability.Sure there are a few ones out there but you have to realize that when these guns were made, most all ammunition fired in them created corrosive residue that destroyed the barrel rifleing, in a very short amount of time.....rending the gun pretty worthless....You cound spend as much money or more on a new barrel as you did on the purchase of the gun itself...Not to mention the costs of having a Gunsmith replace and fit the new barrel..........Expect to pay $300.00 + for one in good shape!

Great gun to go after, though, the prices have shot way up in a very short amount of time, so get one quick. I say you should go to ''mitchellsmausers.com'', but search it on google because I am not sure on how to spell ''mitchell's''. They categorize their mauser's into categories ranging from ''crappy'' grade mauser's starting at about $200. Then it goes way up to collectors grade at about $500 or $600. Whatever you want. I also know they offer their K98's in .243 Winchester, .270 Winchester, .30-06 Springfield, .308 Winchester, and of course, the 8mm Mauser. As for me, I am 14 and I have an 8mm Mauser that I bought off of my grandpa last year for $15, and I am not lying, that is what he paid for it too and had owned it for around 30 years before I bought it off of him. I hope you get one, they are great rifles and pieces of history. And, I will never sell mine and I hope you don't if you get one. Good luck.

I have a case of them from WW2 all still in the original factory wraps. Gonna sit on them and let my estate sell them for big bucks. I have 2 from another case I had opened years ago. 1 never shot, wall hanger, one is weekend shooter.
