Punk is entirely correct, if the purchase is from an unlicensed seller.

Under federal law, you must be 21 to purchase a handgun from a licensed (FFL) dealer in all states (Gun Control Act). BUT IT IS COMPLETELY LEGAL TO PURCHASE FROM UNLICENSED SELLERS INSTEAD. If it is unlicensed seller, the federal law sets the age at 18 (Youth Handgun Safety Act).

In addition, state laws come into play. Some states make the age to purchase or possess a handgun 21, others make it 18, others are silent on the age.

According to the NRA, the age to purchase and possess a handgun is 18 in Florida. Therefore, an 18 year old can lawfully purchase and possess a handgun from a private seller, but not a licensed seller under both Florida and U.S. law.

You are going to confuse a lot of liberals with facts. It would be awesome to be able to communicate the feelings level also. We FEEL badly that people were harmed with handguns, etc. We FEEL safer from similar harm coming our way if we have a weapon to defend against such crimes, in our own hands. Sometimes it seems like hunters who take a kid hunting...have the right idea. Many people are as unfamiliar with the safe and legal use of firearms as they are with miliking a cow, or butchering a pig. They are going to fear what they do not understand, much more than if they had a realistic idea of what is involved in safe gun ownership and use. Take a lib to the range. Change the political discourse by hands on education. And facts, of course. Answer Boy does not think the liberal media and antigun activists use propaganda, evidently. Only the NRA. This is what a sheltered childhood does to folks.

18 years old.
check the NRA website for verification.
As in most states, you can't get the concealed carry permit until you're 21, but you can purchase the gun at 18.

Follow the link, and read the law for yourself.

Puck is correct, you have to be 18 to buy a handgun if it is a unlicensed seller, but you must be 21 to buy it from a licensed dealer.

Puck is incorrect. To purchase a long gun (rifle/shotgun) you must be 18, to purchase a handgun, you must be 21 in ALL states.

Federal law supercedes state laws. Federal law says you have to be 21 to purchase a handgun.
