Outdoor Recreation - August 2007

Help me decide. I like the look of the Para Ordnance Ops and LTC. Second choice would be a Kimber. I have only used a Springfield with a full length slide, I thought it was a great gun. My father likes his S&W wich I havent yet used and friend said to get either a Colt or S&W. So I'm totally confused. I dont really like the look of these others as much but are they better guns. I realize you get what you pay for but the Colt/ S&W seem to be a bit to pricey for me. Would the shorter guns be totallt inaccurate? User reviews of any brand /style would be helpful.

I'm going hiking this weekend with my fiance, it's not an overnight trip but one of those day hike things. I've never been before but when I first started dating him almost a year ago I told him I loved hiking and I used to go all the time, but I was only saying it to impress him, I didn't know he would ask me to go on a trip with him. The hike is like seven miles long and it's supposed to have a lot of nature stuff along the way. But my question is what does a person take with them on a hiking trip? And do bugs bite you ? because I hate that! Is it really enjoyable?

we fish a man-made lake surrounded by about 100 luxury houses. it is connected to a nearby river by two canals. some people say the fish caught from it (largemouth bass, crappies and catfish) are safe to eat but some others say that, because of the chemicals that people use on the landscaping in people's backyards that can runoff into the lake, it is not safe. i've called the local county health department and they have no information. i don't see how it'd be any more harmful than eating fish from the farm ponds and sloughs here in the california central valley (which people do all the time).

I was cleaning the rifle and I must have pulled the slide back just a little too far and now it won't close. After I could not get it to close I broke the gun down to see if I could determine the problem. No luck yet, and I dont want to force it. Has anyone had a similar problem?

Every time I empty a mag the slide doesn't lock back. It's every mag I own, not just one particular one so the mags aren't he problem. I keep the pistol lubricated and it's just about to hit a year old so it's still pretty much new. I use winchestor ball ammo at the range so my ammo isn't bottom line either. Is this something I'm going to have to take to a gunsmith?

I just bought a new fishing rod so me and my girlfriend can hang out on stressful days! well i have no idea how to start the line from reel to rod! i tried just feeding it through the loops and tried throwing line and reeling it in and i keep getting tangles! please help!

one time me and a friend were going shooting shotguns, i was walking in front of him on a trail. i heard a click and i looked back. he was staring at me like he'd seen a ghost. he had acidentally pulled the trigger on his rem. 870 12 guage, while it was loaded, and while it was pointing at my leg. we pulled the shell out of his gun and sure enough the primer was struck, but it had not gone off. the shells were new and a reputable brand. i've never seen anything like it since. have you?

I was wondering if there are any advantages to using a paintall coil. I mean that as in the coil that you attatch to your co2 tank and your paintball marker. And with it you can keep your co2 tank in your paintball harness.

I ask only because I keep maintain and use my survival kit on a regular basis. The most dangerous hunts I do are hound hunts where I wait for fresh snow and head for the highest altitude I can drive to then hike in on foot. Also these hunts are done at night. I have spent many nights in the cold looking for my hounds and making my way back to my truck. Anyways I recently looked online for a list of items and could not find anyone who had a good list. The reason I say this is either they have way to much to carry, or not enough to survive, and lastly not one single kit contained toilet paper. Not one! I don't go in the woods with out TP. I call it mountain money. All kidding aside though, what is in your backpack and what activity do you participate in that requires you to have such a kit? Can you carry your bag comfortably over miles of rough country with no roads or trails? I have found that my pack has evolved over the years and varies slightly from season to season. Oregon hunter
