one time me and a friend were going shooting shotguns, i was walking in front of him on a trail. i heard a click and i looked back. he was staring at me like he'd seen a ghost. he had acidentally pulled the trigger on his rem. 870 12 guage, while it was loaded, and while it was pointing at my leg. we pulled the shell out of his gun and sure enough the primer was struck, but it had not gone off. the shells were new and a reputable brand. i've never seen anything like it since. have you?

Yes, I have had something like that happen. I was hunting small game with a .410 double when what I thought was a grouse took off ahead of me. I mounted the gun, released the safety, swung and pulled the trigger. CLICK! And that was a good thing because I recognized that the bird was an owl just as I was pulling the trigger.

The primer had a good indentation, but I stuck it back in the same barrel anyway, pointed it in a safe direction and pulled the trigger again. BANG!

God must love owls.

JC,

I've seen dud primers. But you can bet God had something to do with it.. Count your blessings. I lost three fingers as the result of an accident with a faulty old bolt action Steven's shotgun as a teen, I am one of these guys that knows exactly where a person's barrel is pointed, and if someone swings their barrel in my direction I am hitting the ground. I see a barrel pointed my way and I am having flashbacks to 9:51AM opening day of Pheasant season 1975.

If that had happened to me I don't believe I would be going out shooting again with that friend*... Yes I have had live ammo that did not fire*. You are very lucky it did not fire when it was pointed at you*. Your friend broke a lot of gun safety rules and practices*. You could have been severely injured or died from being shot*.. Please in the future make sure you follow all the rules of gun safety yourself as well as the person or persons with you*.

First of all, why were you walking in front of him while he had a loaded gun? Especially when you were just shooting.

Why is the safety not on and why was his finger on the trigger? Why was the muzzle pointed at you?

So many factors play into this.

But yes, it's an act of God, you better thank him and learn your lesson.
