Craigslist will not allow firearms ads.

Your local paper or the free classified paper that you find in front of the 7/11 are usually your best bets.

I have used www.auctionarms.com to sell a couple handguns and a couple rifles. Also bought several as well.

You can register free. You can list the gun, along with pictures free. If you sell the gun, auctionarms.com gets a commission of two and a half percent (2.5%). Most sellers expect the buyer to pay for shipping. The buyer must supply a current FFL to you. You ship to the FFL dealer, not to the buyer. I use a local pawn shop to receive and ship guns I buy or sell on auctionarms. As a dealer he gets a break on the shipping. Typically, shipping a handgun costs me about $20.00 if I use his service. Shipping a long gun is a bit more.

Selling thru the auction can be time consuming. Usually the auction runs about 7 to 10 days (you pick the time span). Figure another 3 to 4 days for a money order to arrive. The buyer then has a three day inspection period during which they look the gun over (but do not disassemble or fire it). They can decide to return it but they pay the shipping back to you. I have not had any problem (yet) selling a gun thru this site nor have I been disappointed in the guns I have purchased.

Good luck.

Selling or even attempting to sell it online is not the best or safest solution. online auctions are good, but a fee+percentage is deducted for the listing and sale, and can add up to as much as 25% of the selling price.
Most newspapers will not accept guns for sale ads now because of their legal liability for anything sold thru their classified ads. Private sales are good, but only if you know the person well you are selling it to. Any other transfers or changing of ownership technically speaking needs to be done thru a licensed FFL Dealer or you face prosecution on possible criminal charges if caught.
Your best bet is to take it to a local Dealer and put it on "consignment" for sale. You get an agreed upon price once its sold, the Dealer handles the sale and all of the legal paperwork, and all the liability connected with the sale and you don't have any additional fee's like UPS charges to ship it to Dealers out of state. This is the safest/ legal and most cost effective way to sell any pistol, revolver, rifle or shotgun.

Try all the gun forums like the ones listed below. Be sure to list pictures and such, but just say you want to do a FTF deal meaning Face To Face or local. If you are really desperate in wanting to sell it, then price it accordingly. If it a used shotgun, don't expect to be getting top dollar for it. And even if it is new, unless you can provide all accessories, all papers, original box or case, then it will not command a new price. Shop around on things like http://www.gunbroker.com and see what the going rate for new and used ones are.

attend your local gun show, bring the gun with you if you are allowed. If not, talk to the sellers at the show, I guarantee you will find a buyer.

You may want to check the State laws in your area.
http://www.nraila.org/GunLaws

many states now required transfers be done by an FFL dealer.
