I saw this on DIRTY JOBS with Mike Rowe,
They have teeth, that are nomally retracted. Right in the center end of the (what could be called) head, there is a small hole which stretch's when the teeth come out. They Do Bite, but it won't kill you unless they are diseased, or so dirty they can cause an infection.
Hold them at the back of the head close enough they can't turn around and bite, and hook them like any other worm.

hi,u should hold the head part firmly with the lower face of that worm facing u so that u could hook the worm into the hook tip first when it is trying to bite u,the mouth open up for the entrance to the tip easier.once into the hook the worm will have no chance to bite u anymore.u could stunned the worm by give it a few knock lightly on any hard surface so the worm wont be too vigorous or simply hold the worm with some cloth.always head/mouth part into the hook first.simply a few squeeze the worm will be less lively.I always hold the worm and wait for the mouth to open up/when its biting then thread it into the tip.anyway the bite is harmless just sometimes painful if the rag/blood is very big.enjoy

hi well over here we call these ragworm they have 2 pincers that come out of the top but are harmless best way to hook them for long range casting is hold behind the head and feed onto hook like a normal worm little tip leave a bit dangling at the end and sitck it with a needle for short casts just put the hook throu the head will wiggle about like that for ages good luck

Blood worms can in fact pinch you. They have a knob of flesh that normally is retracted inside the worms body, but if the worm senses danger the knob telescopes right out of the end of its body and this "knob" has 4 tiny black spines that look like hooks. If allowed to, these hooks will latch onto you and actually break skin and "pinch" onto you. (Contrary to what you might have heard they DO NOT suck your blood like leeches do!)The bites are a sometimes just a little painfull, but not life threatening or anything like that. If you are using them as bait, I usually get them to expose this knob with spines, by squeezing the worm lightly and just cut it off the end of the worm with a penknife. Danger gone and great bait! Put them on your hook just like you would a nightcrawler, but leave about 3/8" excess hanging off the hook barb. Good Fishing!

Before putting them on the hook, you need to slam the bloodworm on the ground so it causes a bloodclot. Then you could put the worm on your hook.

I'm pretty sure they don't' have fangs the only reason they are called blood worms is because they have a large vein running down the middle and they bleed id u puncture it. so just put it on like a normal worm. i have never gotten bit by one before and i go fishing with my cousin a lot
