Haven't bought a bike in years and need a recommendation. Thinking of something in the mountain bike family. Visually cool, 26", multi-speed of course. Hoping to spend $100-$175 or so max. Any thoughts or recommendations??

Thanks!

My wife and I are going to purchase bikes for us in the near future. We really know nothing about bicycles, other than how to ride them, and was hoping someone could give us some good advice about brands and what to look for. We want them to last for a long time!

We'll mostly be riding paved streets/trails, but sometimes we may have a dirt trail we're on.

Can someone help?

This bicycle was manufactured for Trek in Taiwan, the frame is chrome-moly, and is a non suspension bike.

Ok here's the situation...

I'm looking for a bike to ride to and from work. It's about 24 miles total with lots of hills. I also would like to take it for long weekend rides also. I would like to spend 500 but am willing to go to 1000. I know there is a certain dollar amount where you can get a really nice bike without paying for the luxuries. That's what I'm looking for.

But if there are some components I should splurge on what are they?

Many of the bikes I've been looking at are racing bikes. I used to ride a touring bike but I felt it was too heavy for my rides. With my touring bike I had a panniers but I plan on just getting a timbuk2 bag in the future.

I would like some suggestions on what to buy & where to buy?

And any advice you suggest.

Thanks

When a self-sealing inner tire tube is punctured (up to 1/8"), it is said to reseal itself. But does it reseal the puncture for good or does it just give me enough time to get to a place where I can change / patch the inner tube?

Also, does using tire liners affect the tires in any way at all (aside from keeping me from having flat tires)? I have a mountain bike but I use it only on paved trails.

hey, i have an IronHorse Outlaw FS. I hate this thing with a GIANT pasion. Its a mountain bike so i thought, hey mountain bikes are meant to be ridden on mountains...WRONG! I take it on a mountain...horrible idea every time i hit a rock on a little 2 foot jump the stupid bike chain would fall out of gear and id have to completely stop what i was doing because i realized I CAN PEDAL AND IM GOING TO DIE. it totally sucked because i wanted to get some seriouse riding in that day and wasent able to. i think i manually put the chain back into gear like no joke about 12 times that day if i counted correctly, so yeah i need a bike that i can make some gnarly jumps while i ride it over extremely rocky terrain like desert type stuff you know? please answer me back someone...

Hi All,
In three months I am entering my first significant time trial event. My training at the moment is
a daily commute of 20miles a day and doing basic leg excercises in the gym three times a week.
I was hoping some of you yahooers may have some tips on gym/outdoor activities to help improve my fitness.
The time trial will be over 118 miles.

I recieved this really nice mountain bike for my birfday. It was perchaced pre assembled. After going on my maiden ride, I noticed that when I do a slight turn of the handle bars, my foot scrapes against the front tire pretty badly. I dont have huge feet or anything, so I was wonering why this is happening. I find it kind of dangerous too. So whats going on?

I am a newbie, Yesterday i went the Trek 3700 it is a nice bike but the seat is so narrow i went to bike trial today for the first time but my rear end bones are killing me now, so should I go and buy one of the big seat which have strings underneath which are found in the beach cruiser bikes. Or keep my nice professional seat and my butt will get use for it

i use to go uphill to a ski resort for 2-2.5 hrs like twice a month but just for a change i went to the beach today and rode 40km (25miles) at an average speed of 30km/hr (19mph). is that decent enough for a mtb --gt avalanche 3.0? what kind of speed do pros or adavnced amateurs develop ? is my bike good enough or should i upgrade it?
