I believe most skateboards have sealed bearings. In which case, you have to replace it as a whole

Skateboard bearing are usually a case type (deep v or taper)they can be single sealed "z" or double sealed "zz". Generally the double sealed bearings create the most drag (slower) but last longer because they keep the dirt out. (Single sealed are usually fitted "seals out" and also keep the dirt out)

The wheels are held on with a retaining nut if you undo this you can usually slide the wheel off.

The bearings are usually pressed into the wheel. If you get a metal bar (or punch) small enough to go through the centre of the bearing (on the other side) you can tap it with a hammer work your way around the inside of the bearing it will start working its way out.

Lubricate your new bearing. (double sealed might be all ready lubricated) Press your new bearing in with a pipe slightly smaller than the outside diameter of the new bearing.(Don't hit it with a hammer) Try not to push on the bearing seals. (if fitted)

Don't forget the (mostly) helpful people here in the (bi)cycling section of yahoo answers. Ride a bicycle when ever you can. It is a better form of transport than a skateboard. You can use one to ride to your skateboarding venues.
