From my experience in the gym, those bicycles don't seem to burn many calories, compared to the eliptycal machines and the treadmills...but I have a mountain bike now and after a good ride outside, I feel like I get a workout.....or maybe it is in my head?

A friend has a 4 wheel bike from 1938. He was told there were only 25 made and they were made in Raleigh, AL. I can't find anything on this type of bike.

I am buying a mountain bike, althought the top frame slants down at an angle away from the handlebars and so is not horizontal, making getting the right frame size difficult for this novice. I am buying the bike online, because of the price, and none of my local bike shops stock the bike so I cannot try it out for size.

I know that with mountain bikes vs road bikes, you need to get a frame which is a few inches smaller than the size you need for the road bike frame.

I have an inside leg measurement of around 740-750mm. I am 5foot 8 inches tall (177cm) and I have a well proportioned, slim/medium build.

The exact STANDOVER height of this mountain bike are as follows:

15" frame
716mm standover

17" frame
752mm standover

19" frame
784mm standover

Which size bike would suit me best?

Thanks!

Recently my trek 7.3 Fx Disc got stolen from school and I now need to replace it. I was going to get the same one, but I went to a Specialized store and found a bike with carbon components that is a much smoother ride, the Specialized Sirrus Sport. I enjoed the ease and breaking power of the disc breaks, but am tempted with the smoothness and speed of carbon. Are disc breaks necessary on hybrids, I do live in a hilly area? Any suggestions?

We all know about the protection to the environment, health benefits...
What I would like to know is some facts, numbers or benefits that are not easy to discover. Personal experiences are also welcome.
I will publish the best answer in my blog.

I understand that mountain bike frames are generally sized 10-12cm smaller (for a given person) than road bikes? Is that because it is assumed that a mountain bike will be used for off-road riding? I am asking because I use my mountain bike 98% for road riding - perhaps I should size my next mountain bike as if it were a road bike?

thanks
Paul

My local bike shop dont mind if you barter the price down on their bikes, however, they dont stock the bike I am after.

Evans cycles on-line does stock the bike at a reasonable price. My question is:

Could i phone them up and negotiate a slightly lower price over the phone, or would they tell me to get lost?

Thanks

After some extensive research, i have decided the Specialized Rockhopper 2006 is the bike for me.

However, i cant devide on the colour. It comes in two: metallic silver or satin blue (which appears to have a metallic sheen).

Which colour shall i go for? Pics are below. Note the blue isnt as "solid" as shown in the below picture, it is more metallic/reflective.

Thanks for your help!

I'm getting ready to purchase a new stumpjumper, but I can't decide which one to buy. I definitely want a full suspension, but I don't know enough about bikes to decide if it's worth the money to make the jump from the basic to more advanced bikes. I'm not even sure what the difference is between the comp, pro, expert, s-works, and elite. Obviously, there is a weight difference, but what is the component difference? Is this difference worth the money to a novice biker who now has the time to start riding a great deal and hopes to be racing this summer?

I have had my bike for a couple of years, and my brakes seem to be weak. I am a teenager, and I admit I do a lot of "skidding" with my bike. I had the discs replaced once, and that was over a year ago. Do the pads need replacing? Do the disks need replacing too? Another problem I have is the left pedal falls off. No matter how hard I tighten the bolt, the pedal will eventually fall off. I have had that replaced too, and it has happened again. Is there something I can do to fix these problems? Thanks for you help and concern.
