I have a Shimano City and Mountain Folding Bike with 5 gears. The low gears do not function they seem to be mis-aligned, only the 4th or 5th gears work OK. Any suggestions gratefuly received, apart from going back to the vendor. Thanks.

Hello everyone,

I'd like to know whether or not I will sit comfortably on a 20" bike as a 5'10" rider. How will I know if I fit a bike properly, and what will be the marker for comfortability? Is there something that you feel, something you should reach or be able to touch when on a bike to know that it fits and you'll not have any problems?

Btw, I am closer to 5'11" than 5'10".

Thanks,

Av

I'm buying a few old bikes with rusted chains, and flat or busted tires. How much does it cost for replacement chains and tires?

I am thinking about taking my bicycle to work. It's a regular bicycle (not a sports). I will have my backpack with some books and my lunch with me when i travel.

I am trying to calculate how long it would take me to get to work.

I've got a bicycle and some of the paint has come off. Underneath the bare metal is a shiny grey colour and it hasn't rusted at all even after being out in all sorts of weather.

Does this sound to you like 531?

Hi all

I am looking for any recommendations/ advice about locations for a week holiday in the /spring winter sun later this month. Somewhere quiet, cheap, and sunny where my hubbie can cycle on road / mountainbike all day while I read / sunbathe by the pool! / beach. Absolutely not bothered about other sights / shops/ nightlife/ other activities.

Any ideas or recommendations?

We had considered one of the Canary Islands (but have no idea of which resort on which island would be best). Can you guide? Alternatively, Cyprus - again, no idea.

I would appreciate any info at all.

What are the brands known for durability? Or does the brand matter at all? Are they all basically the same?

I was thinking of keeping the bike in my garage and taking the rider safety course before I attempt to ride it. Is this the best way to learn how to ride? I dont want to get on my brand new bike and damage it and/or myself. Whats the best thing to do? I know I should have gotten something older and less powerful, but I couldnt resist it

i just bought an '07 Shimano LX crankset off ebay and didnt realize that the BB cups and sleeve are not included. i know that the new Shimano cranks have the integrated spindles so i was looking for a nice BB upgrade to match it. i saw some nice RaceFace cups online. are either of these compatible with LX? i need something optimized for XC racing, but i dont care if there is just a few grams difference.

they look like they will fit and the people who are selling them say it all cool, but i want to be sure.
i also need them to fit into an 07 Spec epic frame, so let me know if there is any controversy there.

thanks to all who answer.

I am thinking of biking it from Anaheim Hills to Costa Mesa. Someone told me that going through Santa Ana is risky, as there are many taggers and homeless people that hang out there. Anyone have experience with that ride?

I have always wondered this: which statement, if any, is true?

1. Switching the gears frequently on a bike will help "loosen" the gears and provide a longer gear lifespan.
2. Not switching gears will prevent it from being "worn out" and will provide a longer gear lifespan.

Basically, I want some tips to keep my new bike in good shape. But I especially want to learn about the gears.

Thanks.

Do you know how well the little trailers you buy to put behind your bike to put your toddler in work well or not? I want one but they are around $100 so I wanted some opinions first.
