Yes, I have hang-glided. If you're close enough to it, you can go hang-glding at Kitty Hawk, N.C. off the largest sand dune on the east coast known as Jockey's Ridge. They have hang-gliding courses there at a place called Kitty Hawk Kites that is just across highway 12 from Jockey's Ridge. I only tried it once, but not only was it fun, it was easy! You hang in a harness from a central balance point underneath the glider and rest your hands on a horizontal control bar right in front of you that is solidly attached to the glider. In a perfectly calm day you would not have to do anything more than just run off the top of the dune. To steer you push on the bar to shift your weight in the direction you want to go. For instance if you want to go down you pull the bar closer to you. If you want to go up (assuming there is enough wind and not too much or you'll stall) you push the bar away from you. To go left, you push the bar to the right (thus shifting your weight to the left), to go right, vice versa. There is a bit more to it that they give you in the training prior to your flights, but trust me I'll do it again. And it's so quiet you can hear people talking below you and talk back to them while you're airborne. Hang Gliding can be as high as you want it to be (there are places in the mountains that are thousands of feet high to go) but on Jockey's Ridge it's not so high that it scares you and you have sand to land in. Give it a try!

My gym teacher did last year and she's retiring this year, LOL, so I'm guessing it was fun. :o, I'd love to try.
