check out Bicycling magazine for current and past reviews...

Giant is overall a pretty good name... also check out KHS, Trek, and Specialized.

Like any manufacturer, they have low-end models and high-end models to choose from, and the only REAL difference is the frame. Most components at a given price point will be basically the same, so you're paying for how the frame fits you best. As long as it's not a Wal-Mart bike, and you get it from a reputable dealer, it's good.

For example, both Trek and Giant make road bikes. At the low end are the Trek Pilot 1.0 and the Giant OCR-3. They run about $700, have low-end Sora/Tiagra components, and 8-speed cassettes.

On the high end, you'll find the very same carbon fiber wonderbikes ridden by Lance Armstrong and Jan Ullrich, with top-end componentry like Shimano Dura-Ace and Campagnolo Record, Zipp wheels with ceramic bearings, and weights nipping at 15lb. The right rider can win grand Tours on these machines.

Such is the case with EVERY major manufacturer, and even if you go full custom, you can still hand-pick the same components as Trek, Giant, Fuji, LeMond, Cannondale, etc spec on their own bikes.

I own an XTC.

Good bike for the money. The disk brakes have come in for some flak for squeeking. OK they are not hope minis, but they are good for the money. Pads range between £12 for basic resin upto £18 for Gold (Copper impregnation). Forks are reasonable. I have the Mazzochis, but this year uses Rockshocks (This is for the SE. More expensive models use better kit). The basic model comes with Deore + SRAM casset.

However, for the package price the components are good.

The frame, which is the heart of the bike, is not bad. Hydroformed 6061 Ali. The geometry is not bad.

Overall, I am pleased with the machine. The only thing that I changed were the tyres (Put a set of Pan 1.8s on).

Luck

Yes they are. Good value too.
They make recreational bikes (for around town) and sport bikes (for real mountain biking)
The Giant Reign won a trail bike shootout recently in MTB magizine.

many manufacturers provide excellent bikes and Giant is one of them. And as always quality also depends on how much you are willing to spend.

I have NRS carbon fibre fully. I have changed some components such as the disc brakes as they are not the top. I changed them to "Hope mini" and the dampener to a "German answer" SLR and i have a carbon fibre saddle "AX lightness". One of the best forks at the moment are "Fox".
They are also great for pimping :-)) and weight tuning.
Which i have done and now it weighs 9.3 kg

So all in all i am bankrupt because of it but satisfied with Giant ;-)) lol!

Yes they are.
Depending on the money you want to spend you will get a modest bike or a high tech machine. But as a whole, they are all good bikes for the money.

So are Specialized, and Dawes, (and many other named bikes).

The most important thing is to get a bike you like and that suits the kind of cycling you are going to do. Get it properly fitted is essential!

Luck to you!

I own 4 of them. 1 MTB and 3 road bikes. I don't think you can beat them for value for money.

I've had one! Very very good and reliable make. Comparible with Dawes. Reasonably priced for the high quality. Do a google search and ask for reviews. You'll be able to read other peoples' experiences.
