I am 5'6" and weight about 180......
I have been riding my mtb 15 miles 3x a week, and Im getting very tired. I would love to buy a new bike. I started traing for a Sprint Triathlon and I need something comfortable yet fast. Also, I want it to comute about 60 miles, to work and back. I know I want to ride all the time, but my mtb isnt cutting it.
Any good sugestions of type of bikes for my wide range of use?

If it has to be a trek go for the 1500 probably a size 52 but get fitted to make sure. The Ultegra components wear very well it will be good for sprints and long distance commuting. (there are other brands too)

The trailer will probably fit onto your mountain bike.
If you try to get a road bike to pull it, your going to need a triple chainring and compromise on other things.(two kids in a trailer is quite heavy). This won't make a real good bike for a sprint triatalon or commuting.

There are things that mountain bikes do better than road bikes and vice versa. Two types of bikes is the best of both worlds

I bought a Trek 2300 in 1989 and rode the living daylights out of it. I brought it in to replace the worn out drive train a couple years ago and the wrenches found a hair line crack in the frame and Trek made good on their warranty and gave me a free frame.

Can't beat that!

If I was going to tow my kids i would go with a hybrid rather than i pure road bike. I think the tires with the presta valves are to senstive. But thats just me talking.
