For one, it depends on your bike. You're a little taller than me, but just a little lighter. Check for forks that have 32 mm stanchions or more. Coil forks are good for our weight, but also air forks have improved and are good. It just depends how much money you want to spend on the bike, also.

Rock Shock has a Tora, which is a nice, good entry level fork, or a Reba or Revelation depending on your frame. Fox also has some very good forks, but tend to be a bit more expensive than RS on those forks.

Marzocchi has the MX line, which is also very good.

When searching for a fork, tell the guys at the bike shop wich frame you have so they can offer you a proper one.

If you're going to get serious look at the Marzocci 66 or the Fox 36. Some cheaper options would be the Manitou Black or a Rock shox

If you get a coil spring fork you might be interested in looking into a heavy spring replacement. (Most forks with standard springs are designed around a 160lb rider, not full grown men like us)

depends on the type of riding you plan on doing. The three most popular and dependable companies out there right now are Marzocchi, Manitou, and Fox. You have to decide if you are doing more cross country riding, trail riding, downhill riding, freeriding or even trial stunts. However, because of your height/weight, which is similar to mine, i'd advise you to not get anything less then 100mm or 4 inches of travel. Don't get a for for riding you wont do, for example, don't get 6 inches of travel if you are doing cross country because that would just be a waste of money. Also, don't get a 4 inch travel fork for downhill or freeriding because you will be hurting.
