Verlander currently wears it. Will he give it up to Dontrell Willis (who wore that number in FL)?

I give my Winter Meetings Winner Award to---

Detriot Tigers - Congrat to Tiger Nation. They just aquired Miguel Cabrera and Dontrelle Willis. Yes, they did trade away some potenially great players but it is all potenial. They have possibly the best lineup in the league, if not, they do have the 2nd best. Their pitching staff is very good also. Bonderman had an off year, but they now have Willis, Verlander, Rodgers, and a 5th starter.

I am giving my Winters Meeting Loser to ---

Boston Red Sox and the New York Yankees - Seriously, are you that worried to trade away some players for the best pitcher in the past decade and for the next decade? Santana is lights out and has proven himself for a while now and HE ISN'T 30 YET. He is the ace of any staff in the Majors. I don't care what you say. He had his worst year this year in his career except for his rookie year. His ERA was 3.27. Any pitcher would take that ERA every year. Dumb move for the Yankees and Red Sox.

Some people say that Barry Bonds should be in the hall of fame even if he is guilty of lying to the grand jury. If he does get inducted to the hall of fame, shouldn't Marion Jones get her Olympic gold medals back?

I think that Marion Jones would have won those medals without steroids anyway. What do you think?

touch him, but then I heard that the A's really want him to play part time DH, left-field. But won't his courtdates prevent him from playing? At this point, I guess I would say that Bonds will play for the A's next year if he stays out of court/jail. I would suspect he will get paid around 5 million for one year. Your thoughts?

It just doesn't make sense to me. Sandberg's offense stats are not as good as Mattingly's, and they both had short careers. Sandberg's peak years are the same in number as Mattingly's. Was Sandberg's defense enough to put him in the hall?

We have these two Boston Yankees who came south 15 years ago because times were tough in Boston. They complainant and badmouth everything about Dallas, texas and the cowboys, rangers baseball. We have offered them airfare back to boston to get them out of Dodge but they have became accustomed to our milk and honey. We are devising a plan to ship them south to Mexico with the next batch of illegal aliens or strap them atop a 18 wheeler heading north on I-95. When its game day and the Pats play this knothead goes ballistic and we are certain if Tom Brady get knocked out he will stroke out. Is this the typical Boston fans we are amused at his and laugh at this buffoon but sometimes they are just annoying.

It just seems odd to me that the second best team in all of MLB last season is totally overlooked in ever way, shape or form in this forum. I see lists of so called "Top 20 Players" and I see Granderson from detroits name on there-but no Victor Martinez or Travis Hafner. Then all of a sudden Detroit fans pop out of the woodwork they have been hiding in for 3 months and talk trash after acquiring a guy (Willis) who would be fighting for a 4-5 position in Cleveland's rotation. Yeah Cabrera is a beast-but he won't be the key for Detroit. Last I checked Tigers pitching was not so hot after Verlander. Then I hear talk of NYY in the W. Series next year. They did what to improve? Didn't Cleveland mow them down 2 months ago with ease? Seems to be with guys like Sizemore, Peralta, Martinez, Hafner, Garko, Blake, Guitierrez, Sabathia, Carmona, Cabrera, Carmona, Rafael Betancourt AND Perez -all young guys-that people wouldn't take them lightly next year. Why is Cleveland off the radar?

This era will forever be known as the steriod era. No different than any other. Through the years they have changed the mount, the ball and the size of the fields. The man is 44 yrs old and still an amazing player. When did we turn into a nation with so much hate, so quick to turn on people we once idiolized.

if your a 16 year old baseball player trying to become a mlb player. you got nothing else but baseball. its our only way out of poverty. and you think roids can make you become a player that well go somewhere. is it worth it?

1) Steroids have been illegal in baseball since 1991, 9 years before Bonds broke the 73 home runs record in 2000.

http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/eticket/story?page=steroidsExc&num=19

2) Steroids were illegal by Federal law without a prescription.

3) You and I would go to jail for lying to a grand jury.

So, why should Barry Bonds be allowed in the hall of fame?

I hear all this talk about the Tigers, but they haven't done anything impressive yet. Cabrera was the only real upgrade they made and that will be negated by the aging players.

It looks great on paper just like the Cubs teams w/ Prior and Wood and Zambrano in the rotation. Here is a team w/ a bunch of aging players trying to infuse some youth. Mags had his career year and wont even come CLOSE to matching it at age 33+. Sheffield is going to decline (.260 avg 25 HR), Pudge isn't what he used to be, I wouldn't expect 10 wins out of Rogers, and Bonderman/Robinson are overrated. However, the defense up the middle is strong, Pudge will make his plays here and there, and Verlander will anchor that rotation. Willis is a HUGE question mark moving to the stronger AL (10-13 4.85 ERA I say) and Jones (near 6 ERA) doesn't exactly slam doors shut. Guillen will probably have 1-2 more decent years, but this club is teeter-tottering on the line of a huge sucess or a huge disaster.

A hitter is ganted protection for the elbows, (allowing them to get closer to the outside corner and taking away the brushback resource from the pitchers (even though they are facing 92mph average speed) wrist guards, special batting gloves and chin guards, but a pitcher that is exposed to balls coming to him at over 150 mph is not allowed to use any visible protection. Even they are accepting 32oz. bats ( I use to swing a 32oz bat when i was 12 years old) and I see that all the advantage has been given to the hitters.
