1) Steroids have been illegal in baseball since 1991, 9 years before Bonds broke the 73 home runs record in 2000.

2) Steroids were illegal by Federal law without a prescription.

3) You and I would go to jail for lying to a grand jury.

So, why should Barry Bonds be allowed in the hall of fame?

Once he is found guilty by the federal jury he will be stripped of every record he has and will be thrown in jail and will nver again be allowed to play the game of baseball and he will not be allowed in the Hall of Fame, all because he took steroids, Imagine that.

He belongs in the hall of fame because he is one of the greatest hitters of all time. The fact of the matter is that baseball did not test for steroids until a few years ago and we don't know who did and didn't do steroids. No one is above suspicion. How do we know that Roger Clemens didn't use steroids? And he is a lock for the hall of fame. Barry probably did steroids but so did half the league, how can they keep the greatest hitter of our time out of the hall and then put in some inferior hitters who may or may not have used steroids?

Barry Bonds was a hall of Famer if he hadn't taken steroids.
Have you heard the expression?

In 1998, he was a premier hitter and one of the most feared in the game. He had won 8 Gold Gloves and already won three M.V.P.s. In 1996, He hit 42 home runs and stole 40 bases. That's been done only three times in history.

In 1999, he played in only 102 games. There were rumours that he would retire and that he was tired. By that time, his home run total at the time was around 410. His hits total was also around 1,912.

So, from those numbers, he could have got in, but he probably wouldn't have been regarded as the best hitter of his Era. His acheivments were largely over shadowed by those of Sammy Sosa, Mark McGwire, and Ken Griffey Jr. He hadn't won a World Series either.

In 1999, I bought a Bonds starting lineup figure. You can probably buy some on ebay. I liked his swing. If I was a writer, and Barry Bonds was on the HOF ballot, then I would have voted for him.

His apologists will claim that his stats pre-MLB Steroid Era would have been good enough to get him in the HOF.

And - to go along with that line of thinking - Barry was only forced to play the game with the juice due to McGwire-Sosa (which allegedly got Bonds into taking steroids), hence he is being singled-out in a period where ownership and league officials knew what was going on, but did nothing to stop it.

On the grand jury testiomny, it appears his attorneys are going to fight the charges of lying by pointing out the vagueness and what they feel were descrepencies in the questions posed to Bonds. And, Bonds will stand by his initial testimony that he never knowingly took steroids.

If he is convicted, debate will be a moot point....he will not be voted into the HOF. If he is not convicted, it will be years - if ever - Bonds will gain election into the HOF.

Because Barry was headed for the Hall of Fame before he started taking steroids. Look at his early career, if Barry wouldn't have taken steroids, he would be remembered as an all time great.

I am NOT a fan of Barry Bonds at all but until there is some evidence showing that he has used steroids, you cannot withhold him from the the Hall of Fame. He might be a jerk and not many people like him, but there has to be proof he done something wrong.

He was a hall of fameplayer before he took steroids. He probably woulda had around 550 career hrs without the juice nd he still woulda had over 500 sb nd he was a great fielder with a lot of gold gloves nd had 3 mvp's before the roids. i think he should get in the hall (unlike big mac who was just hrs) but i think they should give aaron nd maris their hr titles back

He shouldn't be allowed in the Hall of Fame . The only good that can come from this mess is to make an example of him so young kids see that it doesn't pay to be a lying , cheating @sshole jerk .
