I wouldn't call it a copy. There are some similarities, but there are many differences, both of which are too extensive to list here. The link below will take you to Wikipedia's Comparison Between Cricket & Baseball page. It's very detailed and will explain all the similarites and the differences. Baseball can also be compared to the British sport of Rounders. Despite the comparisons, baseball is a unique sport with it's own set of rules and regulations.

Let's see:
Cricket require the bowler to keep his arm straight and to bounce the ball.
Baseball lets you bounce the ball, but it couonts against the pitcher unless the batter is dumb enough to swing at it. A straight-armed pitch would not work well in baseball.
Cricket has almost a paddle swung from below the ball.
Baseball uses a round bat, swung from above, below, level, or held loosely in a bunt.
Cricket has two stations and no stealing. Baseball has four with stealing allowed.
Cricket is played without gloves.
The scoring and rules are virtually completely different.
Not much of a copy. It's like comparing Verdi's Otello with Shakespeare's Othello. One might have origins in the other, but they are hardly identical.

Regardless of if it was copied, baseball is far superior to cricket, look at the countries that play cricket. Baseball is American!

Round bat vs. square wicket. Can't get much more different for the hitter or the pitcher. Even the most casual observer would agree that they are two very different sports.
