I give my Winter Meetings Winner Award to---

Detriot Tigers - Congrat to Tiger Nation. They just aquired Miguel Cabrera and Dontrelle Willis. Yes, they did trade away some potenially great players but it is all potenial. They have possibly the best lineup in the league, if not, they do have the 2nd best. Their pitching staff is very good also. Bonderman had an off year, but they now have Willis, Verlander, Rodgers, and a 5th starter.

I am giving my Winters Meeting Loser to ---

Boston Red Sox and the New York Yankees - Seriously, are you that worried to trade away some players for the best pitcher in the past decade and for the next decade? Santana is lights out and has proven himself for a while now and HE ISN'T 30 YET. He is the ace of any staff in the Majors. I don't care what you say. He had his worst year this year in his career except for his rookie year. His ERA was 3.27. Any pitcher would take that ERA every year. Dumb move for the Yankees and Red Sox.

Winners-
Detroit Tigers-of course

Losers-
New York Mets- I'm a Met fan myself so I thought the meetings were a disappointment because all they talked about these few days was how the mets couldn't acquire an ace with their prospects and would have to settle for someone who a good starter and not an ace

In-Between
Washington Nationals- The gained a pretty good young fielder in Lastings Millege but lost Church who I think is a good player and Schinder who was getting sort of old anyway and coming off a bad year. The also acquired Elijah Dukes who if they can get back on track could be good

It seems to me that it is hard to go against the Detriot Tigers for the winners in the Basebal meetings, but for losers I am sorry but I am going to have to go for the Chicago Cubs, yeah I know I pick on them alot, but somebody has to. They didn't even do much, expect for trading for unkown players, even with some of the big name players. But Jim Hendry could have done more, if he wants to be try to get the Cubs back to the playoffs in 2008, even through he really know they are not going to, since it has been before my lifetime, since they have last been in the playoffs, 2 years in a row. A year ago I would would have given them the winners of the meetings, btu not this year, and evne with the poitn is that he was healthy the whole meetings, and at one point didn't have to be in the hospital.

I agree that the Tigers pulled off the block buster trade. They gained depth and power

I dont fully agree on the Red Sox /Yankee assessment though. I hesitate only because the Twins were adamant about including Kennedy and Hughes in the trade with the Yankees. That is alot of very very good young talent. I would have loved to welcome Santana but obviously the Yankee Brass wasn't willing.

winners: definitely the tigers.
losers: dodgers and angels, but more angels than dodgers. dodgesr sign pierre to 45 mill, the next year they sign jones for 18 mill a year? i know jones is good, but not 18 mill good. and what happens to pierre? i dont think he can play LF or RF.
angels sign matthews for 50 mill and next year they go for a old torii huner for 18 mill a year? i know hunter is good, but not 18 mill good. but i guess if you have the money, you might as well spend it....
