Gil played for the Dodgers in his best days with the likes of Jackie Robinson, Roy Campanella, Pee Wee Reese, etc.
His career numbers in the major categories are: 2071 Games Played, 1921 Hits, 370 Home Runs, 1274 Runs Batted In, and a .273 lifetime Batting Average. I will forward the results to the Baseball Hall of Fame to see if we (the Fans) can persuede the Voters (Veterns Commitee) to elect Mr. Hodges.

started taking them? Barry apologist say steroids do not help eye hand coordination and that is true but it can help bat speed since with HGH you are increasing muscle mass which in turn should make the bat lighter in your arms. Steroids will also help you not fatigue as easy and able to put better at bats together through out the season. Steroids will also help you recover, so you can perform on high levels in back to back games. The exra strength will also allow you to hit balls out of the park that you might not have been to before because of the extra power. How did his home run output miraculously increase at his age? steroids of course,Only a fool thinks steroids do not help peoples performance because if it did'nt why would the athletes be taking the stuff? Barry is a cheat, he cheated Hank and you know it? home run king don't mean nothing, it is just a title, a title unfairly taken. discuss

I heard that the Padres have put a waiver claim for Igawa. How close are they to a deal and will it get done? Who are the Yankees looking for in return?

1961 season where he hit 61 HR's to break the Babe's record should've put him in on that achievement alone, and come on people, this was 1961, long before steroids even existed in sports. He finished his short career with, 1,325 hits, 275 HR's, 851 RBI's and .260 career. My logic is, if they let the Scooter in, Phil Rizzuto, you have to let Rog in.

I believe his number is retired by the Yankees, and he has a monument in centerfield.

corporate type, the way he answers questions. He already has 2,303 hits, and is only 33, so I assume he'll get way over 3,000. .317 lifetime hitter is nice, but I've never seen what the big deal about this guy is. He just happened to break in with the Yankees in the mid 90's when they were really good and won 4 titles. Does that make him a automatic lock? No. He will get in, but I don't necessarily think he's a great player. He's a hit compiler. His HR total isn't spectacular - 191 and RBI's - 915.

He has 2,296 career hits, 526 Doubles, 360 HR's, 1,440 HR's, 1,259 Runs Scored and .290 career hitter. He has a shot at 3,000 hits if he plays another 4 years, and will probably get to 450 HR's and 1,700 RBI's. Personally, I have never like Jeff Kent. He has played for 6 teams and had 9 dominating years from 1997-2005, with all but one over 100 RBI's. I think he's really cocky and seems like a arrogant jerk. But in the era of roids, I would say he probably wasn't juicing. He is the all-time leader for 2B with home runs, won the NL MVP in 2000, 5 time all-star and many more accomplishments. He is probably a lock for the Hall. First year of eligibility, he's in.

The Big Cat played 19 years in the majors, from 1985-2004 and had 2,333 career hits, 399 HR's, 1,425 RBI's and .288 BA. Even though he played during the steroid era, I don't think their were ever any allegations against him that he used. Those are pretty hefty numbers and he pretty much played his entire career at first base. He was a 5 time all star, 2 time gold glove winner and won the NL batting title in 1993, posting a .370 BA. Pretty good numbers for a naturally big guy, listed at 6' 3" 245#, but probably more like 265#. Galarraga had around 9 dominating years between 1993-2001. I think he probably won't get in for a long time. Does anyone think Dave Kingman will ever get in? Kingman played 16 seasons from 1971-1986 and was a dominant slugger, hitting, 442 HR's, 1,210 RBI's, 1,575 hits, but a poor BA at .236. I think that low BA is keeping him out.

Bill (Spaceman) Lee had to be the most unpredictable. At one time while having a rough outing he came out to pitch in the third inning with half of his moustach shaved off, tried that for an inning or two and then shaved off the rest. I also loved wathing Tug McGraw, a real bundle of nerves but very effective.

and intimidated the opponents with his heat and his fu man chu stache'. It's time to let in the Goose. 22 year career from 1972-1994, the Goose was 124-107 with 310 saves and 1,501 K's and a 3.01 ERA. Not monster numbers, but Hall of Fame worth numbers? yes. He was a dominant reliever who batters feared.

436 Doubles, 479 HR's, 1,570 RBI's, and a .297 career average. Certainly Hall of Fame worth numbers, and when it's all done, he'll probably hit around 600 dingers. The stikes against him are obvious, played during steroid era, admitted to taking the cream (he said he thought it was arthitis cream), has been dogged by steroid allegations via Balco and the Jose Canseco book and others, he is a hard guy to like, ala Barry Bonds, seems to have a very poor attitude and has played for 7 teams which doesn't look good in my opinion. I think he'll get to 3,000 hits, but does that really mean anything anymore? I mean look at Rafael Palmeiro, he got to over 3,000 hits and then got a dirty test, and will he get in? who knows. I think it will take several years for Sheff to get in, but he will have to come clean finally, like Giambi has. And for Palmeiro to get in, he will have to climb out of that hole he's been hiding, shave that beard and for once, tell the truth. The truth always helps.
