corporate type, the way he answers questions. He already has 2,303 hits, and is only 33, so I assume he'll get way over 3,000. .317 lifetime hitter is nice, but I've never seen what the big deal about this guy is. He just happened to break in with the Yankees in the mid 90's when they were really good and won 4 titles. Does that make him a automatic lock? No. He will get in, but I don't necessarily think he's a great player. He's a hit compiler. His HR total isn't spectacular - 191 and RBI's - 915.

Also a side-note, huge Yankee hater here. Seattle Mariner fan. Yankee fans are very arrogant. I heard comments like, well, if Edgar Martinez played for the Yankees or Mets he'd be a lock for the Hall, but not the Mariners. Sorry to break it to you Yankee fans, but NYC is not the capital of the world, and not the center of the baseball universe ANYMORE. Yes, in the old days it was. But the Yankee dynasty of the 90's is over. They haven't won the WS since 2000, and probably won't for awhile. It's over.

There's room for him to screw it up, but currently he is going in the right direction and doing many of the right things, so the expectation here is that, when it is his time, he waltzes in.
Yankee fans will complain that he didn't receive 100.00% of the ballot, though.

What's the big deal with home runs anyway? A guy who puts the ball in play on a regular basis (.317) would be MY choice any day.
I don't understand why people don't like DJ. Jealousy? Who knows. He seems like a good person and is an all-round good player. Maybe not flashy like some, but with the game on the line I KNOW that Derek is going to pull out all the stops.
He's a HOFer FOR SURE!
Ms fan? Then you should DEF understand Derek Jeter! You have Ichiro, certainly NOT known for his home run hitting! A great player, nonetheless. Now that I find out you are a Yankee hater, it makes more sense to me. You hate Derek because he wears the pinstripes. If he played for Seattle you'd LOVE him.

Unless he falls of dramatically the next few years I'd say he's a lock. 4 titles and being the face of the Yankees all those years helps a lot. His home run totals are low, but he's a shortstop, give him a break. He's a class guy that's been very consistent through out his career. He's clutch in the post season also.
Not to mention he dates hot celebrities. Women love the guy and guys want to be him!

hell yes because what you have to be a hr hitter to be considered a hall of Famer and plus they had no name back in the 90s when they won the ws and plus he has been consistent all the years hitting over 150 in all his years and 317 lifetime is great and plus hes clutch in the postseason he has 17 hr and over 40 RBI and is hitting over 300 and not to mention hes a great example of how a baseball player should play just because you hate the Yankees and Derek which i don't understand why does not mean hes a crappy ball player also Roy in 1996 and MVP in the ws and MVP in the all star game and hes not been linked to steroids he plays the game right

No question. If his carreer ended tomorrow he would be voted in on the first ballot.Aside from his numbers,One of the best clutch hitters I have ever seen.Plus he's got, what about 4 or 5 rings.Come on it's a no brainer. In fact his number will probally be the next to be retired.

If Derek Jeter played for Kansas City or Cincinnati his entire career no one but die hard baseball fans would know who you were talking about. Good player non the less and yes he's a hall of famer.

He is a lock, and deserves to be. I also think he's overrated, but the fact is, that shortstops who can hit like that are extremely rare. He's not really a great defensive shortstop, but he's adequate. He is a terrific baserunner and does a lot of other little things well. His only weaknesses are his lack of range up the middle and his slow release on his throws. Otherwise, he's above average at everything.

He is an excellent all around ball player and one of the best playoff performers of recent memory. He fields well, runs well, hits well, can flash power, and is clutch. What more do you want? By the time he ends his career he will most likely accumulate the required stats to get in the Hall, but he does not need to because he is already there, all you got to do is watch.

At this point, he'll put up better numbers than Griffey.
Jeter will be in the hall unless he has a MAJOR injury.
he is too consistent NOT to.
He is a well spoken example of a classy ball player.
And you dislike him for that?
no Steroids, no scandal, just plays ball.
I wish my team had him.
