Baseball - June 2007

In my opinion the biggest problem facing baseball today besides the steroid situation is too many owners who care more about pocketing the money they make for themselves instead of making their team better. That's why teams like the Pirates, Royals, Devilrays, Marlins, will continue to go nowhere until Selig has some guts to force these owners to start making these teams competitive or he should only allow people who really care for what's best for the team & fanbase to buy these teams. For all the complaints about George Steinbrener at least he cares for his team & wants to always make them competitive. The other problem is the out of control salaries. They need to be a salary cap but thats a broken record already. If these salaries continue to go out of control many fans will soon not be able to go to the games if they can't already.

They are already almost unbeatable when Bonderman or Verlander start, and they are mediocre when enybody else does. When Kenny Rogers returns, and they have three excellent starters, will they become the team to beat?

It is hard to Argue with Detroit's Joel Zumaya, who has hit 103 mph on the radar quite a few times.

I think they should get rid of the Marlins(i know they won 2 championships 1 against the Yanks but they still have no fanbase whatsover & an owner that doesn't care for the team) the Devilrays & maybe even the Nationals(Expos).

More as follow-up to ? abt losing a no-hitter. I recall collecting baseball cards in early 60's and Haddix was still active then, and a cartoon on the back of the Topps Card chronicled his loss as one of baseball's ironies. I don't recall exactly the year, but pretty sure it was well before Maz's miracle HR.

A recent Yahoo question asked if anyone ever lost a no-hitter in baseball. Some guy from Houston was cited as the sole example as I remember it. But why did no one give Harvey Haddix who lost a perfect game in the 13th inning. He pitched 12 perfect innings and lost after giving up a hit in the 13th. So he pitched a 9 inning perfect game and lost it.

I hate him so much i don't care what happens to him as long as he doesn't get the record. And it's obvious he cheated, gaining 20 pounds of muscle in one offseason. Gaining 60 pounds of muscle in his thirties.
