before Tito musters up the courage to tell him how to play

It's not just Manny, all the Red Sox left fielders play a shallow Left field as do many of the visiting teams. The idea is to take away the cheap single and play the hard hit ball off the green monster. He is still able to go back to the wall and catch a fly ball. The one big problem is the ball hit in the gap and not being able to cut it off, but they give that up for the other benefits of playing shallow. You know his shallow play is planned because he plays a normal left field position when not playing at Fenway.

Manny got burnt last night , but just think about all the catches he has mad in past that would have fell for a single, only because he was in shallow. Usually he can get back and get the ball. I honestly think, even if he was back, that ball would have sailed away from him. It was tailing off the left big time.

As a Yankee fan, it pains me to say this, but Manny seems to be playing with allot more enthusiasm then he has in the past. Well at least he's not taking leaks behind the wall in the middle of the innings.

probably a million. Manny is not what you would call a great fielder, the only reason he's playing is because he's the Red Sox best hitter. besides do you really think anyone is going to tell Manny how to play let alone that idiot who is managing the red sox

Plenty more if he keeps puting up 40-50 homers and 100-150 rbi's. Nobody really cares what kind of defense he plays as long as he pays attention in the playoffs

for every time that he gets burnt playing shallow counts twice as much as if a ball drops in front of him....seeing as how a double is twice as damaging as a single. that being said, it's like the bud light commercial....when some one asks YOU for a bud light you say "no english". you prolly don't get it if you haven't seen the commercial. but anyways manny has hit 25 or more home runs in 12 straight seasons. and i don't expect to see david ortiz play left instead. so your answer is y times x squared to the third power.

How many time have you seen visting LFers give up double that should have been singles because they don't know how to play at Fenway? Manny knows what he's doing he just looks bad at time because he's slow.

it is good to play a shallow LF because u have a large green wall behind u to back u up (AKA "The Green Monster")
