He didn't get on the ballot last year, but people like Jay Bouwmeester and Zdeno Chara did. Gonchar whipped Chara across the board in last year's stats, and Bouwmeester only had a good +/-. And Gonchar wasn't even a nominee for the Norris last year, even though he got 2nd most points among all defensman (67 to Niedermayer's 69). Gonchar has had 50+ point seasons the past seven seasons, Chara's and Bouwmeester's career high is 43. And even though Gonchar is considered an offensive player, he's still got some of the best defensive skill in the league, i'd say, but lo and behold, Chara and Bouwmeester are on the ballot, and Gonchar is not.
