First of all, I get a kick out of Yankee fans already claiming the championship for next year, kind of reminds me of the whole "27 in '07" stuff we saw here...

Santana won't go to the Yankees unless they're willing to move Chamberlain. The Sox have a deeper minor league system and more prospects ready for the majors. Masterson or Bowden could both make an impact as soon as 2008, Crisp is still a very affordable young CF with outstanding defensive ability, Lowrie could fill in the vacant SS position for the Twins, and Lester is already a solid #3 starter on most teams and has been projected by some scouts to be a future 20 game winner in the mold of Glavine.

The Yankees have the prospects everyone mentions (Chamberlain, Hughes, Cabrera, Kennedy) but there are more question marks with them based on scouting reports.

The Yankees will have to give up Chamberlain & Hughes to get him...PERIOD. If they won't part with both then the deal will not get done. The TWINS know that if the Yankees don't get him then they're done so they will hold out until they cave or just deal him the RED SOX because they have the better player package.
As far as the people crakin' on COCO, you're all high. ESPN had a web gems segment dedicated to him ONLY at the end of the season because he made so many amazing plays! No other outfielder in the majors got an honor like that AND he's a career .280 hitter (Melky is a career .275 hitter)perfect lead off guy and a base stealing machine. Granted, he had a bad year at the plate last year but it was his worst year and if he moves to the TWINS there will be less pressure on him to perform.

Melky is not any of those.

Advantage: RED SOX
He was robbed of a gold glove this year too.

The yankees have as much of a chance getting Santana as they do winning the world series in 2008.

Ain't gonna happen.

Wouldn't it be a kick in the @ss if the Twins change their mind's and keep Santana? It seems like both Boston and Ny are being stubborn about not wanting to give up the players the TWINS really want!

First, I completely disagree that Boston needs Santana more. They have an ace in Josh Beckett. They also have a solid rest of their rotation. Could they use Santana? Yes. Do they need him more than the Yankees? No. The fact is that the Yankees do not have an ace. Wang is a good pitcher but not an ace, and certainly not the guy who can anchor a team in the playoffs.

This is why I think that ultimately the Yankees will be the team that lands him. I think the Sox are driving up the price on the Yankees and it is likely to work. Cashman has publicly stated that he has no desire of trading Hughes but in the end it will be Hank Steinbrenner's decision to make and I think he will make it. The Yankees need Santana more and that's why they will part with their talented young prospects to get him.

Then look for the Sox to make a trade for Dan Haren

Santana isn't even a free agent
in my opinion the Red Sox are giving them the best offer though...

If your question is did they get him then no...and last I heard the Red Sox were the front runners to land him...I would imagine if he is going to be traded it will most likely be soon...like within a week.

Red Sox working on the framework doesn't mean anything. Yankees are still playing .
