I actually wouldn't be overly upset if they traded Lester...he has shown glimpses of being a solid pitcher but he has also shown glimpses of being awful...while Lester was a great "feel good" story and I am glad that he fought and beat cancer and was able to come back to the majors but I want to have the best rotation the Sox can possibly have...if that means giving up Lester to get Santana then I say thanks for your service Jon...If the Sox were willing to give up Gabbard (who I think is a better pitcher than Lester) for rent-a-wreck Gagne then I don't think they should balk at giving up Lester for Santana (unless of course the Twins insist on Ellsbury...then I say no to the trade)...so depending on who it is for...yes I would trade Lester.

Personally I'd rather see Buckholtz traded but if it takes Lester to get Santana reluctently yes. Cuz look at the Sox's 08 rotation if that happens
1) Josh Beckett (20gm winner), 2003 WS MVP, 2007 ALCS MVP 4-0 in playoffs 2 WS
2) Johan Santana 2 time Cy Young winner 53wins last 3yrs
3) Curt Schilling: Big Game pitcher 2001 WS MVP, 3 world series (93 L 01 W 04W 07W)
4) Daisuke Matsuzaka: 15 wins will only get better
5) Tim Wakefield: Knuckleballer, 17 gm winner
maybe 6) Buckholtz: Top Prospect No-Hit Baltimore
Too good

That's what good move, Red Sox still in hunt to win another superstar pitcher since they did won the rights to get Dice-K from Japan. They want to win second straight World Series when they have another excellent offseason. They would trade Lester, Crisp, and other two prospects for Johan Santana from Minnesota Twins. The Yankees also still interest in him too.
I believe that Santana is close with David Ortiz because they are teammate in Twins team before Ortiz joined the Red Sox.

Yes I would, I would trade Buchholtz too, but not both in a package for 1 pitcher. Even if that pitcher in Johan Santana. The TWINS need to move him because if they wait until the trade deadline and they are in position to get into the post season they couldn't possibly justify dumping Santana and then...win, lose or draw he's gone and they get nothing. He will be traded and the RED SOX, like it or not, are offering a better package in all aspects.
Crisp: Better fielder than Melky and a career .280 hitter (vs. Melky's .275).
Lester: Two years experience in the Majors, post season experience, won World Series clinching game shows he can deal under pressure and is expected to get even better as he matures.
Both Yankee pitching prospects are risky; Kennedy has 3 ML games against poor teams, no real ML experience. Has potential but nothing real the TWINS can count on yet. Hughes has 13 ML starts and an ERA at 4.45 with the Yankees line up backing him up. Still a big risk for the TWINS.
The prospects from both teams are debatable but Jed Lowrie is a ML ready SS who was ready (according to the ML scouts interviewed by MLB.com) by mid last season for an everyday position in the Majors.
Unless the Yankees up the offer to Hughes & Chamberlain then they have no chance of getting Santana. The SOX will counter with Buchholtz if that happens so I think the SOX still have the advantage.
But hey, anything can happen in baseball right?

if i'm getting Johan Santana, i would! the trade to the twins is perfect for both teams! Twins lost hunter and not only do they now have Delmon Young, but they'd have a good outfielder in CoCo Crisp, and a pitcher they desperately. Santana going to the BoSox would give them that extra pitcher to form a 1-2-3 punch with Beckett, and Schilling. The rich is about to get richer i think!

Elliot, that's pretty vague. I mean, I think it's hard to say anyone is untouchable, and it would really depend upon the deal that's offered.
Lester is a good young pitcher, but he hasn't been lights-out or anything like that. An ERA+ that's about average, and decent but not outstanding numbers. I like the fact that Lester is a lefty, but I'd think that Buchholz would be considered untouchable before Lester.

It depends on who they're getting. If you're referring to the potential Santana deal, then yes. If you're implying they should trade him for ??? then no.
Lester is a solid #3 starter on most teams and has potential to win 20 games.

I would not trade him for just anyone. It would have to be the best pitcher in baseball (Johan Santana).

No...I wouldn't...I would give up Tim Wakefield before Jon Lester...Lester filled in a game and won in the WS...Wakefield won 1 and lost 1 (lost his first, won his second) if I remember correctly...or maybe it was the ALCS and then in the WS...but was also all over the map as far as W-L record during the season...about the same as Dice K...but Dice K is a rookie...Wakefield is not...Bottom line is Wakefield is inconsistent...
