He didn't get on the ballot last year, but people like Jay Bouwmeester and Zdeno Chara did. Gonchar whipped Chara across the board in last year's stats, and Bouwmeester only had a good +/-. And Gonchar wasn't even a nominee for the Norris last year, even though he got 2nd most points among all defensman (67 to Niedermayer's 69). Gonchar has had 50+ point seasons the past seven seasons, Chara's and Bouwmeester's career high is 43. And even though Gonchar is considered an offensive player, he's still got some of the best defensive skill in the league, i'd say, but lo and behold, Chara and Bouwmeester are on the ballot, and Gonchar is not. So can someone help me out here? Is he just a disliked player or am i missing something? thanks. -Sources: Yahoo Sports NHL Statistics.

As a Bruins fan I can not say Chara doesn't belong on the ballot. He's got great moves.I do like Gonchar too.Felt terrible when Boston stupidly let him get away.Just about every game after that when we played against him the error of our ways came back to bite us in the but by none other than Sergei. He should be on the ballot

First of all, Chara is a much better defenceman than Gonchar, not too say Gonchar doesnt belong their too. Its defence, it doesnt matter how many points you get, its your defensive skill, something Chara is near the top of the league in.

But yes, I agree Gonchar should be there, well ahead of Bouwmeester. If Gonchar really deserves to be there, the coaches will pick him,so we'll have to wait until January.

P.S. Where is someone like Mike Richards... having an amazing year and hes soo young.

I've never seen Gonachar as anything but a defensive liability. Yes he can score goals but I've never thought he could do it in his own end. And I see no evidence he has ANY defensive skills. He's a collective -30 in the last five years. There must be 20 or 30 DEFENSEMEN with better ratings. He does fine on the PP but he's not physical enough or responsible enough in his own end to be a number one or two defenseman on any seriously contending team.

AHH!
I don't know!
I love Gonchar. If any defenseman deserves it, he does.

I don't know. I've been doing alot of searchings on it.

Because he's overpaid and overrated.
