Is that why the IRA never(intensionally ;) ) blew themselves up? My understanding is that both religions never really "spooned" with each other- but perhaps if this could be addressed the whole
world could be peaceful...or murder each other

Spoiler alert! This is for those who plan on never reading the books or seeing all the movies, yet insist on saying they know what it is about.

Myth: The books are about kids killing god.
There is no god mentioned. There is an evil angel called Metatron who takes over after the leading angel goes senile. It specifically says the angels did not create the universes the books are based in.

The kids don't kill him. Adults do-the lead characters parents in fact.

Does this change your viewpoint at all? Or at least will you now phrase your boycott correctly when bashing it?

Everyone says Philip Pullman (who wrote "The Golden Compass") is an aetheist.

My religious belief, or whether I have one or not, is irrelevant to this reasoning I have, that is, this following: it is a fact that Philip Pullman has said publicly that he hates God. That's true; I'm not making that up. It's well known that he hates God.

But how then can Mr. Pullman be an aetheist? How can you truly hate something or someone you don't believe exists? I can say all day long that I hate the polka dotted hippopotamus that lives in my closet, but if I'm a "polka dotted hippopotamus aetheist", I can't really hate it due to the fact that I don't believe it exists.

Now, if I were to actually believe in it, I could hate it. Of course, I would probably be insane as well.

So, is Philip Pullman an aetheist? I don't think so. I think he can either believe in God, and hate God at the same time, or else the man is insane....(not that I'm saying there's no God).

The bible clearly states the penalty is death. Why aren't Christians up in arms about gays being allowed to walk around and breathe air freely? It seems they have capitulated considering all they talk about is gay marriage. Will a true Christian please explain?

"The Vatican said earlier this week that Pope Benedict XVI would {grant indulgences for a limited time} to pilgrims who visit Lourdes for the 150th anniversary."
"In the Catholic Church, indulgences are remittances of suffering for sins. {"The Vatican said earlier this week that Pope Benedict XVI would {grant indulgences for a limited time} to pilgrims who visit Lourdes for the 150th anniversary."
"In the Catholic Church, indulgences are remittances of suffering for sins. {In order to go to heaven, it is believed one must 'repair' the harm committed on earth before death.}"

HOW CAN A MAN PUT A "TIME LIMIT" ON SALVATION?

I KNOW THAT MANY OF YOU KNOW THAT WE ARE SAVED BY JESUS ONLY.YET HERE RESTRICTIONS ARE APPLIED. "In order to go to heaven, it is believed one must 'repair' the harm committed on earth before death." THIS IS BEING SAVED BY WORKS.We all should make restitution when lead by the spirit to do so.But we do that because we ARE SAVED, not so we can be saved.Right?

Why did god choose Mary to be the Bearer of Jesus?
And why does the bible say Jesus is the son of David, if he is the son of god?

"The lord god will give him the throne of his father David"

Luke 1, V 29 onwards.

I wanted to share this with you, I hope it will be of use to you.

"What if something happens, God?" I often hear myself say.

"What if an unexpected storm comes and takes all I have away?"

What if I lose my job, my money, my dreams and more?

What if those I love somehow let me down?

What if life leaves me scared, shattered, lonely, and bound?

My " What if" list is endless, as I worry and fret over the unknown,
Then I turn to God and find He has a "What if" list of his own.

"What if you start your day", by giving Me your cares?

What if you have faith without a doubt that I will be there?

What if you let Me handle your health, your job, and all your dreams?

What if you let Me show you what love truly means?

What if you consider that I'm the calmer of all storms and your fears I can relieve?

What if today you trust Me at My word and simply choose to believe?"

As the story goes, three kings from the east came to Bethlehem bearing gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh which they presented to Jesus upon his birth. I can see that the frankincense and myrrh would have been used up, particularly in a stable, but what ever happened to the gold?

God is calling. He realizes that you already know it all and that you don't need anybody to tell you how things are. And that you are so intelligent that you figured out how man descended from the apes. But he is still calling you, because he loves you and does not want to condemn you to Hell. Will you heed his call?

I've read a few posts from people today who say that the shooter was an atheist. I've also read that the people who were injured/killed were shot because they were Christian.

I haven't found any information in any news sources corroborating these claims, and I was wondering where people got that information.

Here's the article, fresh off the AP wire:

All religions are about doing something right and God will reward you for it. What does Jesus save us from if all he did was form a new religious standard for which we are rewarded?

I thought Jesus saved us from our inability to meet religious standards not set a new criteria by which men are sent to hell.
