As the story goes, three kings from the east came to Bethlehem bearing gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh which they presented to Jesus upon his birth. I can see that the frankincense and myrrh would have been used up, particularly in a stable, but what ever happened to the gold?

I agree with Jed.

They had to live, and eat, and eventually needed a place to live. They would also travel a few years later, when they return home after Herod's death, and would need resources for that.

Hope I helped. God bless you. †

NOT three magi, but enough babylon jews returning to stir up all Jerusalem at festival time, and also Herod who lived in the nearby royal roman city. And NOT to a babe in a manger at Bethlehem, but to a "child" in his "house" at Nazareth.

The frankincense and myrrh would have been for annointing and embalming. The gold would have been for the trip to Egypt and back, from Nazareth; And for maintaining their home and carpentry business in Nazareth to return to.

Mary put it in a savings account for the baby Jesus, but he never got to make a withdrawal. There's a moribund account in a bank in Zurich which, with interest compounded at 2.5% per annum, will be worth an absolute fortune on the second coming. Less of course tax to be rendered unto Ceasar!

In the Bible, Jesus hung out with hookers and tax collectors. Would they have been interested in him if he didn't have some bling bling?
