All religions are about doing something right and God will reward you for it. What does Jesus save us from if all he did was form a new religious standard for which we are rewarded?

I thought Jesus saved us from our inability to meet religious standards not set a new criteria by which men are sent to hell.

Tuberoot - Look at your answer again and ask yourself how much of what you told me is transactional. If I do this I will get that. I think all of it. I don't think God was being transactional about salvation. He saved the creation and the creation is coming along for the ride. Everything else we make up.

My conversion to Christianity was VERY different! I had been both intrigued and subjected to many spiritual experiences in my life before I became a Christian. When I became converted to Christianity, it was a rather memorable experience as well.

So the difference is to me a baptism of the Holy Spirit which was done while alone in a dark bedroom, not in a church with a bunch of Pentecostals. Though they do not tend to know it, the proof of God is with God, who gives out the proof of Himself with the Holy Spirit. He decides who gets the proof and who does not get the proof.

You are right. There is much in the 'religion' of Christianity which seems to be just another Law of Moses, with plenty of do's and don'ts that make life seem complex. All the while they are also saying that we are made free in Jesus Christ. Where is the freedom if I have to worry about all these rules and regulations?

I have read the Bible through, and have studied it for over 20 years. What I have found is a lot of things that Christians themselves have ignorance in concerning their knowledge of how to live. They tend to think that living a 'pure and clean' lives - pleasing to God, as if they could perform such a thing by their efforts. The Bible is contrary to that kind of thinking. It's impossible for us to do that.

So what I tell myself is what the key to Christianity is after the conversion - to trust God. I started that way, I am supposed to continue that way. So it's not about the rules and regulations, but about tuning into God's word, and trusting Him for what He said. If He requires a change in the way I behave, as long as I am actively trusting Him He will bring it about through His Spirit.

What we have with much of Christianity are those who think that they can have a standard and God will accept that standard. As they 'clean up' their own lives, they become prideful, and consider themselves as an authority on how others need to behave.

My answer to that: Don't be 'religious'! Be spiritual. Trust God more than you trust yourself. Whenever life gets difficult, I remember to say to myself, " Trust God, I have to trust God!"

What to trust Him for? I go here and read this:
Psalm 37
3 Trust in the LORD and do good;
dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture.

4 Delight yourself in the LORD
and he will give you the desires of your heart.

5 Commit your way to the LORD;
trust in him and he will do this:

6 He will make your righteousness shine like the dawn,
the justice of your cause like the noonday sun.

He said He would do it. And I believe that He will.

Jesus saved us from our inability to meet religious standards not set a new criteria by which men are sent to hell. This is what makes him an enlightened one/guru.

The road to God is not instant. There are many paths and we all take a different one. None is right, and none is wrong. What guides me down the path may not guide you at all.. Ask God to make it crystal clear for you.. He does hear you..

Peace & God bless from Texas. <><

Jesus IS the way.
The only people who go to hell are the ones who reject Him.

Yes being born again is very diferent. Jesus gave us a gift and all you have to do is belive he was who he said he was. Though you have to really belive with your heart and if you do it will show up in every day life.
