I don't get it.
I heard that's one of the reasons why their church is growing so much, because they're baptizing and adding the names of people who died a long time ago into their religion.

I just wanted to express my gratitude to everyone here (as if you care!) because I've learned alot here from most of you. All of the questions I "deep down" wanted to know, have been answered. I stopped feeling the "high" of R&S and the novelty of the witty and sarcastic questions wore off probably as I read more and more that would qualify as simply offputting and distasteful. When you realize you can't skim past them b/c they encompass almost 80% of the forum. Anyway, my new hobby is to do my best to quit smoking (I smoke one cigarette a night to help me sleep....)...I'm off to buy sunflower seeds as a replacement. =)

And my question is "Will you kindly accept my thanks?"

Take care everyone...all the best

All the apocalyptic questions made me think of this. We were discussing at work where people would go if civilization fell. I don't mean the Rapture, I mean some man-made or natural disaster that made the power grid go down, etc. so that technology was useless. How would you survive? Where would you go? This isn't a baiting question, I just want to know, does anyone else think of this?

I think its because anyone that blocks out the voice of reason must have his head in the sand? whats your take?

If you block everyone that disagrees with you, eventually you'll be talking to only people that think you are right....and then, you might as well be talking to yourself.

in response to my last question, quite a few of the posters here have assured me that there is no significant racism present in how death penalties are awarded and implemented in the state of texas.

in the light of this reassurance, does anybody here know (approximately) how many black felons texas has executed for homicide of a white since 1854, and how many white felons have been executed for homicide of a black?

Since America is made up of many religious faiths, shouldn't the Government recognize 1 of the holidays above? Shouldn't the holidays rotate? Or, should we do the politically correct thing and recognize the Winter Solstice? I think we should do the politically correct thing, but what do you think?

Teach their childens that Jesus Christ was born on Dec 25 even when they know that he wasn't?

Inscribed on United States currency is the motto "In God We Trust"

Many secularists argue that this is unconstitutional and that it should be removed.

However, the religiously inclined seem to think it's a non-issue. That atheists are kicking up a fuss about nothing. I would like to know how many Christians would mind if, instead of "In God We Trust", US currency said "In Allah We Trust." Or "In Reason We Trust". Or "In Horus We Trust".

Would it still be a non-issue then?

The definition of an atheist is not necessarily someone who BELIEVES there is no god. But it is mainly someone who lacks the belief in a god.

And the defintion of an agnostic is someone who denies or doubts the possibility of ultimate knowledge of the existence of god.

Then technically if the agnostic does not believe in a god, though skeptical both ways, would technically be an atheist since the belief is lacking.

I can only speak for myself but I call myself an atheist. I do not deny the existence of god I simply see no reason to believe without evidence. So in my waiting for evidence and logical reason to believe in god does that also make me agnostic since by definition I do not know (though only from limited knowledge).

I only bring this up to point out to agnostics and atheists that our terms are much closer than we think, it all depends on the individuals knowledge of the definitions.

I've been told that they believe we live in Hell on earth. How can they deny the parable that Jesus told of the weeds and the wheat? Mathew 13: 36-43

To summarize the argument:

"Atheists often claim that the only way for theists to justify their belief is to provide evidence that rationally demostrates God's existence. But many of our most basic beliefs can't be 'justified' in this way. The reliability of our memories, our sense perception, the existence of other minds are examples of beliefs that we take for granted. Belief in God fits into this category of reasonable assumptions."

Atheists, how would you respond to this argument?

would you realize that his body actually did not go up into heaven as it has been taught from the bible, and thus consider the possibility that perhaps jesus was not god? or would you say anyone who believed that jesus' body actually rose into heaven were taking the bible out of context?

Were they just sitting around waiting for scientific evidence, or did most of them consider it to be a myth. Did someone actually have to carry a water sample to the White House and say "yes, it is indeed rain, we have carbon 14ed it, it is happening now."

For those of you who want to take this question seriously, do so at your own risk.
