For years I believed there was no God. Its not that they convince themselves there is no God its that is what feels right to them. They dont even realize the bad consequences that are and will happen to them, cause they are self absorbed. Now with God in my life I see everything more clearly and see that I was just being blinded by evil. Its a different reality actually.

Since when does life carry absolutely no consequences for your actions? If you break the law, your freedoms are revoked. If you mistreat other people, you get ostracized and mistreated yourself. Doing good deeds gives you personal satisfaction, and a lot of people return kindnesses offered them. If you obey the law, you get a nice job and a steady life. I don't know what you think about atheistic morality, but life is nothing BUT consequences.

If you mean without moral consequences than YES.
Lack of faith will not prevent the very real consequences of say the judicial system or Boris the guy who makes collections for the bookie.

LOL- Churches and contradictory scriptures convinced me that they were all lies... coming to terms with the fact that I was responsible for my own morality and there would be no god to judge me at the end of all this showed me that I never needed one in the first place.
In fact- its not that liberating at all. The consequences I suffer for my mistakes and wrongdoings will happen in THIS LIFE... you know the ONLY ONE I GET- if I screw this up, this is all I get.
At least you can convince yourself you'll be living forever... I can't anymore.
Have you had your break today?

For me, I'm convinced there is no God, at least not a knowable one, because there is no evidence to support the existence of God. Some people look at life and think the idea of God makes sense of the world, but I'm not one of those people. If I'm wrong and there really is a God such as people describe, then I really don't think God is all that great at his job.

No. Consequences are unavoidable, whether or not there is a God. Secondly, I do not know of anyone who convinces themselves that there is not a God. In fact, one doesn’t need to be convinced. There is nothing to suggest otherwise.

Is convincing yourself that there is one a way to live life without taking responsibility for it?

no, we all have personal morality and ethics and live by the law of the land. I don't need a scary after life to have morals, you can think for yourself. After all ask yourself if you would happily murder someone if there was no afterlife punishment or would you still know its wrong?

I'm not sure why Christians feel this way about atheists.
Life is filled with consequences, it does not matter if you believe in a god or not.

No. Every action has a reaction, a consequence. Everybody can see that (even babies and some animals), not only those who believe in god.
