i went from a christian school to a public school. at the christian school i learned alot about God, but the problem is now that im at public school, my friends dont know God. they always curse, and do wrong things in front of me, but EVERYONE does it. am i suppose to stand up in a crowd of people and say, "you all need Jesus"

or what to do?

i mean, i definetly dont want to go to heaven and have God say, "This person went to hell becuase he never knew the word of God and you, Ava could have taught it to him"

i will feel horrible if someone goes to hell becuase of me. o and some of these people....i specifically asked "Do you love God" some of them said yes, and some said "hell no"
what to do about these unchristian friends?

Tons of people come here and pull out bits and pieces of scriptures to say that God condemns gay people and catholics and everybody who thinks different but they only use the parts of the Bible they want. Right there in Psalm 14:1, I found it. "There is no God." Aint that as plain as day?

If they can pick the parts of the Bible they want to use, can I do the same thing to prove my political agenda is from God? (Who the Bible says in Ps. 14:1 doesn't exist...)

I just saw a story on TV about how many families refuse that the organs of the deceased would be used to save someone else's life, on religious reasons. However, they didn't state those reasons. What are those reasons, and wich religions forbit that?

In most of my Bible classes and in my college theology studies, the word Jehovah has been called an artificial construct and blatant mistranslation of ancient Hebrew and Aramaic text. I understand however, that the name Jehovah is considered the sacred name of God to the Witness community and they are required to call God as Jehovah (the name of God). Please help me to understand this; how can a mistranslated (human mistake) word be sacred and holy like that? I am looking for serious enlightenment, and am not in any way attacking Jehovah's Witnesses, so please, intelligent, kind-spirited answers!

Does it bother them that people believe in a God. Are they afraid that they would have to ask forgiveness or is their wisdom just foolishness. Just want all non believers to know we love you. God bless you all.
Jesus is the truth, the way, and the life eternal!

Shouldn't I just speak to God on my own terms... rather than obeying his words to somebody else?

If the person who wrote the Bible for God, could understand God's words... how could it be impossible for me to have my own understanding?

Just looking for thoughts here. I won't make decisions based solely on answers.
I LOVE my job. I work, in various capacities, for a large tax and financial services company. I do taxes, manage an office, and work with every new student and first-year employee for a 17 office district. I frequently work 'off the clock' answering tax questions (both in real life and online in Y!A), scheduling interviews, tutoring students, etc. But I do it with a happy heart, knowing I am helping someone. I am very dedicated to the company I work for as well. I feel that I am very blessed to enjoy going to work (almost) every day.
The problem? I am so involved with my job that I can't find time to study my chosen spiritual path as much as I would like. Cutting back my hours and not working at home seems like the easy answer, but it's very hard since I care so much about the work. The question is - should I quit my job and find one that I'm not passionate about, or do you see some other compromise?

Someone once said that the map is not the territory. It conveys information about the territory. It's a symbol about a specific reality. It's valid as a symbol, but it's not the reality. To study and memorize the map will never equal the actual experience of going to that place.
To think it is....well, you get my point.
By the same token, is 'God' as commonly understood a symbol for something else?
Are people confusing the map and the territory, so to speak? How can I know the difference? How can I go there and experience it first-hand?
What can you tell me?

I recently answered a question about how to tell a child they are born sinners. I answered that I didn't believe they were, but it has continued to bother me. Does it mean that all children are born with the potential to become sinners, or does it mean that a baby who dies shortly after birth will go to Hell because it had somehow sinned? Like I've stated in my other religious beliefs question, I'm firm in my own religious beliefs and am just looking for information and understanding. Thanks!

I mean, just take a minute and read the way many of us Christians shower them with love and understanding, how we call them to grow by being shining examples of the love and patience of Jesus for all people?

Is it possible to read a few questions or answers from a couple of fundies and see just how insane it is for atheists to feel a little bit ticked off and on the defensive?

And thank God there are absolutely NO Christians who ever get defensive and petty on here, right?

And yes, I'm using IRONY to ask a perfectly valid question, so there is no need to lean on the report button.
