My brother actually said that he doesn't believe our cousin is really an atheist, because our cousin feels guilt. Needless to say, I don't feel comfortable telling him my anti-religious state. I mean really, what can you say after that? He obviously cannot understand the concept.

Whether religion based or not, most of us have some code of ethics. If we didn't we would quickly find ourselves on the outside. Someone once asked me that if I didn't believe in Hell, then why should I be good. The answer comes from a christmas carol-"be good for goodness sake" Be nice to me because you like me, not so you'll get brownie points and go to Heaven.

nah i dont believe that, you have morals because of the person you are, not the person you believe in. You are a good person because thats who you are, not who pretend to be to impress a god or whatever. Im not an atheist but i wouldnt say that they have no morals

I get asked that all the time... like how do I know right from wrong, what keeps me going out and murdering people if I don't fear the consequences like eternal damnation in hell.
Really people, do you honestly need the church or the ten commandments tell you that it is wrong to kill and steal, rape and pillage? These are the basic rules of civilization and they were in use way before the Christians held up their 10 Commandments.

I believe atheists morals are relative. By this I mean it is determined like a lottery on factors such as where they grew up, education, gender , race, culture, etc.

Well you kind of answered your own question, but no I think morals can be derived from many different sources. It is short-sighted to say that atheists are incapable of moral behavior.
The people you're describing are sociopaths--they are different.

Who believes that?
Clearly if that were true all the atheists would go running around indulging themselves and breaking every law known to man.
God Bless:)

I don't think God cares what you believe. He's got bigger fish to fry. Do you believe every thing in the bible to be true or allegorical. God's more than the hand full of religions we read about in books, just be a good person and procreate. I don't think we can even fathom the truth, we are not supposed to.

Of course, I don't believe that. I know too many atheists who are highly ethical people.
