After some minor digging I found the original quote that the snippet above was mined from:

"I've been surprised by how little criticism I've got. Harry Potter's been taking all the flak. I'm a great fan of J.K. Rowling, but the people - mainly from America's Bible Belt - who complain that Harry Potter promotes Satanism or witchcraft obviously haven't got enough in their lives. Meanwhile, I've been flying under the radar, saying things that are far more subversive than anything poor old Harry has said. My books are about killing God."

Wouldn't have to take this extremely literally to assume that he actually admits that "killing God" is what his books are about? It seems to me that he's speaking about how misconceptions of certain fantasy novels exist, such as Harry Potter's promotion of Satanism/Witchcraft and his books' God killing events.

Your thoughts? Please think before you post.

It all happened long ago in a galaxy far far away, how can't you deny that jesus is a jedi master?

the bible sounds like Bs. talking animals, 900 year old men, world floods, and all these miracles. sounds fake to me. thers no real proof that this ever happend. dont say if youdont believe your evil and ill go to hell. if God is so good why would he condemn his own "kids" to hell and suffering. why does "He let certain people go through sh*it forver! (dont remark my typos that doesnt affect my intelligence!) there are lucky people born and not-so-lucky! well why! ifyou just say just bleieve b/c its the rules theres still no proof.science and religion dont mix! the bible (fake book) always shows evidens\ce of"God" being angry and hating so many imperfectpeople who dont worship "Him" (and getnothing in return)! how ridiculous of me to be prey to this nonsence before.

IS IT REAL? give valid proof!

If they truly beleive that God is in control, why do they say we are all going to die and that it's this HUGE issue. It's basicly saying that they don't trust God, the one who created the earth, to handle something like that. Either that or he's not powerfull enough to handle it.

Someone who decides to have faith in Jesus?
Someone who was brainwashed to believe in Jesus?
Someone who logically concludes Jesus must have been God based on the evidence?
Someone who receives flawed evidence and concludes Jesus must have been God?
Someone who decides to believe just in case it is true?

stick from 'born' muslims, especially becos converts refuse to acknowledge Islam as it is, but come up with their own version of how it should be, and their own interpretation of, perhaps what they want it to be or mean. Inherently I suppose they want to mix their western lifestyle and blend it in with Islam, all the while forgetting they are breaking Islamic rules in doing so.

Is this correct?

This is something that has been on my mind recently. I understand what the Bible states about gay people (even though research shows that it’s all mistranslations) but none the less, let’s assume that what the Bible states is factual.
With that said the Bible states that homosexual behavior is a sin. That it is an abomination. Going along with the premise that it’s true, what about other sins?
Adultery
Murder
Theft
Lust
Greed
Gluttony
Sloth
Pride

Why is it that people seem Hell-bent (lack of a better word) to condemn gay people and their ability to have the same rights as other couples, when there are MORE greater sins and threats to the Church than gay people? These other sins are much more visible and prominent in our society, not to mention that many of them are UNFORGIVABLE sins in the eyes of God. Why not attack those people? What makes the sin of sexual contact worse than the sin of adultery or sloth?

I’m looking for honest answers, not hateful statement or comments. I’m asking an honest question.

Thanks to those that are taking this serious.

Jesus said:
Matthew 5:11-12, "Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake. Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you."

And yet later on Paul writes this:
Titus 2:15, "These things speak, and exhort, and rebuke with all authority. Let no man despise thee."

So, if we know as Christians we will be hated and persecuted what does it mean in Titus that we should "let no man despise thee"?

Ok, am I the only Muslim who really thinks Saudi Arabia should quit calling itself the best place for Islam, even though it is the birthplace? It's not following Islam at all. So it claims to follow Shariah law. Ok, fine geniuses, you tell me where in Shariah it says that a victim of rape is the guilty party. I can show you where that whole 4 witnesses thing is applicable ONLY in the case of a married man and woman, being accused of adultery. I can further show evidence that Islam states to stone the rapist and the victim is to go free.

As for the woman praising the Jews, why not when it comes to certain parts of history? Even the Prophet (PBUH) had some good things to say about them. Why in the world these countries call themselves Islamic I have no clue, because they certainly don't follow it.

Does anyone else feel this way? If you really study Islam, and not just glance it over, look at it in context and you'll see those that do this are sinning. This is crazy!

Some Christians say deeds cannot get you into heaven. That you have to accept Christ, thats the ONLY way... The BEST person in the world cannot get in unless they accept Christ...

So i'm curious, what if a homosexual accepts Christ? Doesn't matter that he/she is sinning by having homosexual sex... they accepted Christ right?

If a homosexual goes to hell for committing gay sex, then it would seem deeds DO have something to do with getting into heaven... that would mean you can't just believe Christ is your personal savior and lord and still get in...

After all, we all fall short of grace anyway and he's the only way and we ALL sin...

And if you CAN go to Hell for having homosexual sex and not repenting, then will the hetero fornicators that cohabitate with their bf/gf's be in hell to? Or someone that lies or commits adultery?

Where is the consistency? If accepting Christ is the only way, then gays can go to heaven too... if they can't, then apparently, deeds DO count..

It is my understanding the atheism is the firm belief that God does NOT exist, while agnosticism would indicate the inability or unwillingness to prove that God exists.

My questions:
1. Am I accurate in my understanding of the 2?
2. Can a person reasonably claim BOTH?

According to the Book of Mormon a family of Jews left Israel around 400 B.C. They built a ship and sailed for a new land. God guided the ship to South America.
Their families then flourished and became the tribes of the Americas according to the B of M. However DNA evidance proves that the indigenous people from North to South America came from Siberia. There is no Jewish DNA in them.

So my question for today's mormons is How can you keep believing in something that is impossible?

I believe it is. I was the biggest cynic on the planet. No WAY was I gonna become one of "them". I considered christians fools, especially prayer that made them fall over. I saw it as pathetic but i enjoyed church for the music team. Long story short someone convinced me to go up for prayer. Others were falling over (making fools of themselves) but reluctantly I went. I told the prayer lady I wouldnt be falling over and considered it silly. The moment her hand touched my head it felt like hot oil pooring into the top of my head. I couldnt hear what she was saying, as I was too busy trying to fight off the sensation to melt right down to the floor. I became overwhelmed and scared so I pushed her hand away and screamed "stop". She wasnt ready but I insisted and refused to let her continue... I was scared and I tell the total truth, I began crying and shouting out "what the F**** was THAT.... OMG what the f*** was THAT?! It was the holy spirit. Brainwashed you say? I think not.

"Because the other god's were figments of man's imagination, as is the idea that there is NO God"

If so, can you please provide your proof that the specific god that you believe in is not a figment of your imagination?

Please remember to hold your own god to the same standards that you held all of the other gods when making your claims. If the same method of proof you use to validate your god can be used in a similar manner to validate other gods or NO gods, then all you have no proof of YOUR god.

This is not a question of personal choice. This is a specific question asked to a specific group of people in an attempt to understand how you can invalidate all other gods while not invalidating your own. Thanks in advance for your responses.

In the short time I have been a member or yahoo answers I have noticed a reocurring question.
Why are atheists in R&S ?
I would have thought this forum is open to all. If your opion is there is no God ,or the bible is a not true ,is this not a religious view ?
Surely atheists have something to add.
Would it not be a boring site if we all agreed ?
Would you fellow Christians not agree that many atheists raise interesting points ?

What would be a reasonable expectation for life on this planet, from the supposition that it all was created by this one god:

a) the entire planet worships and honors that god.
b) most of its creation worships that god, but some don't want to worship or have turned away from it.
c) the planet is a wild mishmash of beliefs, with people believing in thousands of different gods or none at all.
