This is something that has been on my mind recently. I understand what the Bible states about gay people (even though research shows that it’s all mistranslations) but none the less, let’s assume that what the Bible states is factual.
With that said the Bible states that homosexual behavior is a sin. That it is an abomination. Going along with the premise that it’s true, what about other sins?
Adultery
Murder
Theft
Lust
Greed
Gluttony
Sloth
Pride

Why is it that people seem Hell-bent (lack of a better word) to condemn gay people and their ability to have the same rights as other couples, when there are MORE greater sins and threats to the Church than gay people? These other sins are much more visible and prominent in our society, not to mention that many of them are UNFORGIVABLE sins in the eyes of God. Why not attack those people? What makes the sin of sexual contact worse than the sin of adultery or sloth?

I’m looking for honest answers, not hateful statement or comments. I’m asking an honest question.

Thanks to those that are taking this serious.

to those that state because it's accepted, or is vile....etc...

what about gluttony? how many FAT preachers are there? how many FAT people are there in the world?!?! That's not accepted? Gluttony is a DEADLY sin, one of which there is NO forgiveness.
sorry to those that are overweight, but your gluttony is SINFUL. But people just shrug it off. Why such hypocracy?

What a great question! I think you're right - people can look at homosexuality and think that somehow it makes them better because they don't participate in that particular behavior - completely ignoring all the sin that might be in their lives.

It will always be looked down upon with great emphasis. The symbolic act is viewed as perverse to a great degree. there is no thought of you were born that way within religion. I feel murder, etc is looked at in the same way but gay relationships are more in the media these days.

I know nothing about what it is like being gay. All I can say is it is viewed either a person was abused by a same sex person and has had a psychological outcome of acting that out, which is related to a girl raped and acts out by having sex often. I think that does happen. I am not saying you are not born with said feelings but this is ignored. Also it is viewed that people do this with great degrees of lust. For example when sex is not enough people start to do what many call perverse. I suppose you can go into a psychological break down as to why a person lusts etc but I believe these are the main things people see these actions as. also a person brought up that has never had friends, group etc can turn to a destructive acting out much like people can give you an attitude in hopes of being set in their place as they are weak and can't just ask for help. Sometimes people need an authority.

Again I have no idea about it I am just telling you how I see people react and why. lack of understanding is always key.

I must say most religions look down on gay sex and relationships and wonder why gay people care. I think all people yearn for a spiritual filling and think you must dig deep when you seek out such things, so if you are not content by the world the least you can do is understand your opposer as much as yourself.

Plus must people don't care until it is there problem and will not seek out answers until they have to.

It's kind of funny, through out history there has been many accounts of gays being part of the usual community and no one really cared. I think people who have power and shouldn't have it are trying to just be control freaks. Considering the only people who are against gays are bible-thumpers and this country was suppose to be about not having laws based on religion, I really don't get what the problem is. Also, why would they teach tolerance at schools and have gay clubs if being gay isn't allowed?

Guess I made more questions than answered them, sorry. Hope that helps a little.

EDIT: That's F-ed up. I am trying to help by giving a decent and honest answer and you go on making fun of fat people. Hate to tell you this but most of those are deadly sins to. Have you ever heard of AIDS?

The Bible states that the ONLY unforgivable sin is blashpemy of the Holy Spirit. (Mark 3:29 "But whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will never be forgiven, he is guilty of eternal sin") All other sins are seen as "equal" in the eyes of God. Perhaps why some christians focus on homosexuality is the simple fact that we are all humans. It is hard for us to see how God looks at lying through the same eyes as murder. We tend to focus on what seems to be the "worst" or "most rebellious" of the sins in our world today. I hope this answer helps. I don't mean to be rude or one-sided, this is just what I have found in the Bible.

Xian condemnation has nothing to do with their religion--their religion, however, has a great deal to do with their hatred and their ignorance--it's why they chose Xianity in the first place.

My response is not meant to take anything away from your question which is an excellent one, and I'm giving you a star for it!

Xians pick and chose which sins to take seriously. One even told me that despite the fact that homosexuality and the wearing of different kinds of fabric are prohibited in the same chapter of the OT, "It is obvious that God means some sins are more serious than others." Obvious, but it doesn't say that. Isn't it "obvious" that there are eight (or seven) other planets even though another Xian on here this AM said that earth is the only planet because it is the only one mentioned in the bible? Sort of gives you a clue to their general intelligence doesn't it?

I always look forward to your questions, Oberon! Thanks for this one and letting me vent a bit!

Honestly - it isn't the type of sin that's the problem (although I know there are folks who focus in on this and neglect all the others). As as you said, in one sense, - sin is sin. For "unbelievers" it isn't the type or even the quantity of sin - it's the mere presence of it that separates us from God.
For me, the problem is with the underlying premise that this, or any other particular sin isn't actually sinful. On a personal (one on one) level - I would speak out to anyone who tried to justify something that was clearly spoken against in Scripture, whether it be adultery or gossip.
I also tend to have those types of conversations with other Believers. It's rather silly to expect folks who don't accept the authority of Scripture to live according to biblical standards.

Because people confuse nature and morality and assume that something that natural accrues is unnatural because it says so in the bible, when if your going to say something is unnatural is bad then you must do the same for everything that is unnatural, that means that you cant take medicine if your sick, go to a hospital to have a baby, drive a car, build houses(or computers). This pretty much takes away everything that makes the world you know FUNCTION now a days. Point is its a stupid thing to get all fussed up over i mean i dont go and protest peoples straight marriages or sneer when i see a man and a woman holding hands. Theres no reason why people should get pissy over it when it dosnt even affect them.

lol people is always looking for something different to look, judge, point and laugh at it. Why? it make you feel better. If you can say "gay people is going to hell" It makes you feel less guilty even if you are a worse person than some gay people. But then again who is free of sin? whether you do them all or just one, a sinner is a sinner. Regardless of how many you do.

Honestly, the only reason they attack it is to make themselves feel better about their own "spiritual shortcomings." They may be fat, their brother may be a murderer, they may eat shellfish several times a month, they may wear blended fabrics and pride themselves in how holy they are, they may have been married and divorced two, three, four times or more, but at least they aren't openly homosexual. The vice that they attack the most will always be the one that won't shine a spotlight on themselves.

Whether someone is homosexual or not, is no one's business. We all are sinners. A deadly sin that many Americans contribute to [[more than homosexuality]], vanity. Don't forget anger & envy. Whats more important.. saving someone from "homosexuality" or suicide? The one thing God will not forgive is killing thyself. Because you can't ask for forgiveness. Too late, you're dead and rotting in Hell.

Sin is sin no matter what the style. Homosexuality is something that engulfs the whole person. They act different, strange, their voice changes which is a clue to what's inside, and they engage in perverse behaviors. People have a right to be offended and protect themselves and institutions from the perverse influence. What's really angering people today is that homosexuals are trying to change society so that people become numb to it. They change the laws and the words. That's a sneaky trick. They go to work on the young kids who don't know any better. They subvert the parents' authority. It's all part of a sneaky weasal type agenda.

If you admit that it's sinful, that keep it behind your own doors and accept the fact that people have a genuine right to believe you are wrong and immoral and they have a right to stand against your influence (you do look gay).
