After some minor digging I found the original quote that the snippet above was mined from:

"I've been surprised by how little criticism I've got. Harry Potter's been taking all the flak. I'm a great fan of J.K. Rowling, but the people - mainly from America's Bible Belt - who complain that Harry Potter promotes Satanism or witchcraft obviously haven't got enough in their lives. Meanwhile, I've been flying under the radar, saying things that are far more subversive than anything poor old Harry has said. My books are about killing God."

Wouldn't have to take this extremely literally to assume that he actually admits that "killing God" is what his books are about? It seems to me that he's speaking about how misconceptions of certain fantasy novels exist, such as Harry Potter's promotion of Satanism/Witchcraft and his books' God killing events.

Your thoughts? Please think before you post.

If you believe in god,(and thank god I do not) then surely the idea that a mild mannered British author is anything for him to worry about is beyond absurd? Maybe they are more worried about people not contributing to their churches, luxury homes and cars, and think that these books may keep the gullible hoards away?

Yes,I heard that in his last book the kids kill god.I could careless because I don't believe in the christian god or a single god as mentioned in the books.I think the book is the golden compass or something like that. Here let me put it like this its fiction, its a book, its not real so get over it people and same goes with harry potter books and movies.Get a life people, these authors work hard for a living leave them alone and get a life. You can mess someones life up by doing this, thasts how they makea living and when you take that away they go broke. And whos the people giving to the poor?Thats just something to think about next time you try to get rid of a book or movie.

So what if the books or movies get kids interested in something they want to look into. Its not your life to control so leave the kids and teens(like me) alone. They can make their own decisions, its their life NOT YOURS!I just had to add all of this excess just to inform some people who do this.

Wow...harry potter is a childs book. Its about love, and good vs. evil. You would have to read it to understand that its point really has hardly anything to do with witchcraft at all really. The quote about "killing God" shouldnt have been brought into any of this. Thats like saying your taking out all good in life, is it not?

he might have meant that it was his intention to kill God figuratively, in the minds of the believers, rather than literally, but I can't see how a quote that plain can be taken out of context.
