...Is it because there's no agonizing eternal punishment for disbelievers in Norse mythology? And no idyllic paradise for the faithful, other than Valhalla (and that's only for Odin's chosen warriors)?

Now I get why Christianity's so popular...it's got the whole threat/bribery thing going on...

With whom did atheism originate? Who founded atheism? Evolution can be traced back to Charles Darwin, atheists trace Christianity back to Paul, but no one has been able to trace where the atheism philosopy originated from. Can you help me out?

Hi, I'm trying to figure out a way of expressing Religous practices, such as being humble, doing the right thing, etc. in a word or two. This is because i need to relate that the priest influenced a character in the story to act more religous, that had an inffluence of hope .

I think they might be religous practices but i dont think thats quite it. Please help?

From the story, there are several assumptions:
1.) God originally meant man to live on a paradise earth.
2.) Death did not exist because there was no sin.
3.) Adam and Eve were meant to procreative.

So, since no one would ever die, wouldnt adam and eve just keep pooping (LOL) out babies until the earth would be overpopulated. I guess god could stop procreation then, but that would make their seaman useless.

So, yeah. Whats the dillio with that?

I specifically want to know if our spirit immediately goes to GOD, or do we Rest In Peace til God's coming again.

Is it real or a whole bunch of stories put together? Why is there an old testament and a new one, why not if they slap you slap them back?

If there is no God or higher power and never was, how did all the matter in the universe come to be? Spontaneous generation has been proven to be false. I can see how the big bang theory would make sense, but where did all this matter randomly come from?

MY MOTHER and sister have suggested we stop calling this month Christmas time. the word conjures up big problems with them. i'm ok with Christ (i love his teachings) but i do agree his birthday was not in winter! lol this i learned in church!! in bethlehem shepards did not herd sheep in winter(infact they dont do that in any country!), so the only time the sheperd could have been watching their flock by night was in the spring.
the point is we dont want to celebrate his bday at this time.
anyway this is a prob. in our home. kids and i call it winter solstice because that is what we will be celebrating. they are half dutch so on december 5th just like their father did as a child, they will put out their clogs on the front porch with treats for st. nicolas and carrots for his white steed. and in the morning there will be chocolate 'coins' and a gift or two in their clogs. but the whole december 25th thing.... i'm at a loss. how do you all treat this day?

Ive havnt believed in a higher force for years.. and infact, i feel more "in control" somewhat. Since i was young i was always told pray and believe and so on.. typical catholic belief ya know. I remember thinking "where is this merciful god?" and the like... eventually i came to the realization that the questions i had DO NOT have answers because no priest or book can answer them. Then i started realizing that a belief in god is just blind faith.. believing in something you dont see, hear, or feel..

I can go on and on but thats not the purpose of this questions.

I guess i realize that good and bad are just opinions of the majority.. if the majority of people think somethings bad, its automatically bad in every religious book written... and same with good.. Its quite funny to think that if the majority of people were murderers.. murder would be legal and praised in religions.. that and other Qs bring me to ask this question..

Do people with no belief in a "God" have happy lives?
