The Bible is a book of many books, 66 in fact.

Written by 40 different authors, each relating events both past, present and future.

The Old Testament contains the Creation, birth of the Jewish nation(God's chosen people), the fortelling of the coming of Jesus Christ, His virgin born birth(foreold about 400 years before His birth).

The New Testament is the telling of Jesus Christ birth, the birth of the church, and the foreteling of the comin future events that have yet to take place.

The Bible was compiled into one book under the reign of King James(not sure on the actual year of his reign, I think it was in the 17th century(1611), he wanted to have an easier way to carry and be able to read the Bible, instead of having to keep 66 different books on hand to read and study.

It was also to help the common mn to purchase this Bible instead of having to buy the many books that compiled the Bible. You had to be a rich person to buy that many books.
A common person could buy one book, the Bible, and have the same information as the one that had all 66 books.

The Old Testament is the books of the oral tradition of the Jewish nation. The New Testament is the witnessing and early development of the Christian Church as the later church leaders want you to see it (i.e. with a bunch of stuff left out that records the losers in debates.) And you can't slap them back because the guy who is the hero of the New Testament said not to.
The church wants you to know the old testament because the Guy said He was here to fullfill the old testament predictions.

Go to www.gotquestions.org and put in the search "canonical books" it will have questions and answers on this and related issues. The Bible is actually a collection of 66 books.Basicly, the O.T. was compiled throughout Jewish history as God revealed himself to men to write His words down. The New Testament was written fully before 80 A.D. and was written by eyewitnesses of Jesus or those that knew eyewitnesses. There is far more to this and it is a fascinating story. For some good detail, read I DON'T HAVE ENOUGH FAITH TO BE AN ATHEIST by Geisler and Turek.

It is composed of different writings by several different writers from several different eras and then transcribed and censored several different times by several different Popes and others of several different eras and tongues. And they still call it the truth. If it is, then that alone is truly a miracle.!

addit: The Bible is not in any way a historically accurate. I don't think it was ever intended for it to be so.
It is in fact acknowledged that archaeologists have proved that the Biblical exodus has so many inconsistencies with the actual recorded events of the time including the population census that shows that there could not have possible been that number of Israelites living in Egypt at that time and they most definitely were not slaves driven to work under the whip by Pharaoh to build the pyramids. The pyramids actually utilised very few slaves most of the workers(labourers ) being farmers who came to work for the Pharaoh as a manner of civil duty representing the to the nome or principality were they lived.
Many Israelites had long established occupations as merchants and traders and returned to Egypt after a few years when famine came upon the land were Moses was leading them. They came to request grain and other supplies from the Pharaoh and received them to take back to their staving friends.
Does that sound like the act of a tyrant?

It is real. Its just that there have been many authors of the books and put all the books together to make the Bible

Old testament covers events before Jesus appearance New Testament includes Jesus and the time after his death and resurrection

Jesus does not want us to fight back. that is why you can't slap back. If you are attacked, don't attack back unless you have to. Two wrongs don't make a right.

Ultimately the Bible as such, is a controlling and manipulative text - all through it - it is self preaching, and putting the fear of death/God into all of us - so that we must believe, to save ourselves. It is an advertisement for Christianity, plain and simple.

It is not a truthful, nor accurate document at all. It has been tweaked over the centuries (more so, at it's earliest) to what we have today.
Do read about the history of the Bible, and the history of the English Bible (an excellent television series) which will give you insights about the Bible itself.
Plainly it was a text written by and manipulated by men - the holy spirit was never present (as this is a claim only).

If you want to see a much better text, try reading about 'The Talmud Jmmanuel' and see whether you find that better reading and more intellectual, truthful, etc etc.

The Bible is the word of God. Here is some researched evidence.

Who wrote the Bible” is a question that is undoubtedly asked by many who are familiar with the impact this book has made on people around the world. The Bible gives guidance in our journey through life to eternity, as well as leads us to a relationship with the God of the universe. It is a historical book that is backed by archeology, and a prophetic book that has lived up to all of its claims thus far. In light of all these facts, asking, “who wrote the bible,” is a vital question that deserves serious investigation and a serious response. The Bible is God’s letter to humanity collected into 66 books written by 40 divinely inspired writers. These writers come from all walks of life (i.e., kings to fishermen) and spans over a period of 1,500 years or more

Who wrote the Bible” is a question that can be definitively answered by examining the biblical texts in light of the external evidences that supports its claims. 2 Timothy 3:16 states that “All scripture is inspired by God….” In 2 Peter 1:20-21, Peter reminds the reader to “know this first of all, that no prophecy of scripture is a matter of one’s own interpretation, … but men moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God.” The Bible itself tells us that it is God who is the author of His book

No human beings could have planned such an intricate combination of books over a 1,500-year time span. Bible manuscripts (remember, there were no printing presses until 1455) have survived despite weather, persecution and time. Most ancient writings written on weak materials like papyrus have vanished all together. Yet many copies of the Old Testament scriptures survived. For instance, the Dead Sea Scrolls contain all books of the Old Testament, except Esther, and have been dated to before the time of Christ. Consider Julius Caesar’s Gallic Wars. Only ten copies written about 1,000 years after the event are in existence. In comparison, there are over 24,000+ New Testament manuscripts, the earliest one dating to within 24 years after Christ.

The Bible is made of 66 books written over the period of 1,600 years by over 40 authors in various countries. The Bible is the word of God given by human men who were inspired by God. We can know is it accurate by ancient manuscripts that we have that match what we have today. The Old Testament is the time before the promised Messiah and the New Testament is the time during and after the Messiah.

the bible is written in two parts. there is a similar version in koran called bible, which talks about a man who did lots of stuff wich was cool, and bible just means collection of stories. these stories were chosen by the king at the time of publishing, and it tells a history of people's perceptions of heavenly encounters. there are two parts, the older one is from waaaaaaay back when, and the newer one is more gospels, and completely about the life of jesus, and the people he affected. A reason lots of people go to the bible is because then you don't have to go searching in lots of places for the information that you want. there are parts of the bible where it will say 'turn the other cheek', meaning let it go, but there are also parts saying 'an eye for an eye', which is quite karmarish. The bible may seem to contradict itself by lots of means, there's even a bit in the bible that says it's ok to hit your kids, but it's because it is the stories of different people's encounters, so some will have different views, and that's why that happens. yay!
