Ive havnt believed in a higher force for years.. and infact, i feel more "in control" somewhat. Since i was young i was always told pray and believe and so on.. typical catholic belief ya know. I remember thinking "where is this merciful god?" and the like... eventually i came to the realization that the questions i had DO NOT have answers because no priest or book can answer them. Then i started realizing that a belief in god is just blind faith.. believing in something you dont see, hear, or feel..

I can go on and on but thats not the purpose of this questions.

I guess i realize that good and bad are just opinions of the majority.. if the majority of people think somethings bad, its automatically bad in every religious book written... and same with good.. Its quite funny to think that if the majority of people were murderers.. murder would be legal and praised in religions.. that and other Qs bring me to ask this question..

Do people with no belief in a "God" have happy lives?

I guess this question falls more towards atheists and other "non believers"...

I find it gratifying when i win an award to say "im proud of myself for doing this" instead of "id like to thank god for helping me win my Yo Momma Jokes Award"...

I found it sickening when id believe and pray for help and savior (not anything overwhelming)... and no "answer" or help.. id either accomplish my goal or fail.

BUT

I felt good when i stopped believing and didnt ask for help.. when i accomplished the goal on my own.. when i KNEW that it was me who did this, no other force controlled me or influenced me.. its was ME who did what i needed to do..

and when i failed.. i failed myself, a force didnt fail me...

No clue why i wrote this additional detail..

So? If you dont believe in a god, are you living a happy life?

I love the responses i got...

To clearify,
i used to be very religious.. i preached and tried to lead a good life.. i tried to find christ.. i tried to be "good" and i did that for a very long time...

but god didnt answer.. god didnt improve my life.. god ignored me.. and life was a true hell no matter how much i pleaded and prayed...

I'll leave you with this...
supposedly god is all knowing.. an all knowing god who only wants peice, created the devil knowing the devil would rebel.. created humans and gave them a choice . a choice to believe or not believe, and when we dont believe, we get punished in hell..

yes your merciful god says "i love you regardless and give you a choice.. but choose against me and burn!"

a "good" god forgives.. not casts you into eternal hellfire.. a "good" god would infact forgive non-believers and grace us with his presence... but no.. your god will punish us.. why give me a choice if you want it to be you?

No, god stopped watching along time ago

I think you are right about faith...faith in God is blind, but if it makes people feel better about themselves, so be it. I don't believe in God, but I believe in being good and civil to others and holding myself to a high moral standard. I don't need a book to tell me how to do that. I am quite happy, and when I look back on my life, I have had some hard times, but the choices I have made have served me well. I have a great life compared to many, and even compared to many believers. Yes, people with no belief in a God have happy lives!

The bible doesnt say anywhere that you will live a happy life if you believe in or follow Christ. It says you will have an "abundent" life which just means it will be full. Could be bad stuff and could be good stuff...but it will be abundant.

As for your question why do people with no belief in God have happy lives? The bible says that the wicked rejoice in their wickedness. They love their sins and are very happy in them and they dont care about things like righteousness.

I suppose that the best way i can explain this so you can see how we see you is to imagine a herion addict...not the kind that runs out of heroin, but the type that always has it and never runs out of it. The addict is perfectly happy and since he has an ample supply of it, he feels like he doesnt need anything. The rest of us see him wasting away and know death is near for him. This is the same way a true Christian see sinners. As wasting away and death near. Even though the addict is happy, you know something bad is coming for him soon.

Just a brief comment please, if you truely become a Born Again Christian you will feel a supernatural force in your life. If you really get saved there is something there to believe in. Thats why there are still millions of people that are Christians around the world today and the reason people like Billy Graham are so beloved. When he preaches I know he's telling the truth because I have experienced that supernatural power that only Jesus Christ can give. If you would like to talk some more, send me an email, there is more to it, I can point you in the right direction.

That's the difference between Believers and unbelievers. Believers care and think about others and about helping others, and put themselves last. God is first in our lives, the way He planned it. I am happy in my life that I serve a loving and living God. By serving God, I learn to serve others.
Unbelievers are all about themselves. I was reading your post, and I thought to myself, "Wow, this says 'Me,me,me, I, I, I----It's all about you, you, you! Nothing about anyone else. How selfish and self-centered.
Right and wrong, good and bad are defined by God. I don't see anything funny in thinking that if the majority controls morals, then murder could be legalized. That is a twisted and messed up way of thinking. And that's what kind of world it would be, and is getting to be because people don't believe in God, and don't teach their children to believe in God.
You may think you are "in control" now, but, when this life is over, you will be awakened by a tremendous shock.
Jesus is coming back soon. And if you aren't ready, you will find out that this life you have been living has been all for nothing, except your ultimate destination of eternal punishment. Choose Jesus, and choose life!

No, because in the bible said if you gain the whole world but you don't Christ or God to your life you are nothing. Because you only become really happy of your life if you are in God hand. Yes you can be happy without God but is i t temporarily only. Because devil fouled man to say that do what do you want to do make your self your God. I heard some people say that, I'm the God of myself but he does not know that if he did the things that does not in the will God he please the devil that actually control his life.

I'm agnostic, and I'm more happy than most people I know.

Honestly, looking at your average person that professes to "need God"...I'm sorry, but I don't need a god. I just don't. I get along fine without one. I believe in the possibility of some higher power...or not. I just don't know. I'm fine with that. And any god that isn't a sadistic murdering bastard ought to be fine with that too.

Faith in Christ is different from being told to have faith in Him. You don't believe in Him if you folloa anyone besides Him. You were following your parents instructions and I can't blame you. I suppose you can be. But "can you live a joyful life w/out Christ" is the real question. (no, you can't.)
Happy goes crappy
but joy is always there.
Even if it's tucked away...when winter comes you can pull it out before you.
God bless you.

Peace and Love,
Sweet

I don't think that believing in a higher power really makes a difference in happiness i think that it is the person. I think that it is personality more than anything else that determines if someone is happy.

yes we do but I moralize a little differently basing honor or good on that which favors life rather than majority rule . if the majority were the only criteria than five people stranded in a boat four of them cannibals; guess what happens...?
