to speak in tongues means to speak in different languages....now i have seen people who didnt know other languages speak different languages in church...but when someone just babbbles and goes on like their speaking in tongues but they are not...I do not understand why anyone would do such a thing except to get recoginition from people who do not know they are not speaking in tongues...

It is a fulfillment of Old Testament prophecy found in Acts 2, Joel 2:28-29, Paul said it was better to Love and Teach in 1st Corinthians 13...Everybody has a gift or talent that can be used to edify God and the Church.

Well, it was done in the Biblical days by different people. I can't say I understand it, but I don't knock it. I would hate to say they are wrong and then they be right. I don't believe that speaking in tongues is for everyone, just like prophesing is not for everyone. I do believe how ever if there be speaking in tongues that there should be an interperter there to tell just what they are saying. God is not the author of confussion.

Tongues was a gift in the early church to spread the good news of Jesus Christ. The example explained shows one speaker and all listeners heard in their own language. This is not what we see today. There is supposed to be interpreters present so it would be interesting to have them write their interpretation down and see if they matched. If they don't match it is a bunch of liars trying to get attention and it is not from God. The Bible says that Christians should test the spirits.

I've seen them and they are ridiculous. They make silly repetitive sounds that are no language at all. Did you see the guys on Borat? What a bunch of ninnies! What purpose could that have in a church. Were I Christian, I'd wonder who would be more likely to inspire confusion, chaos and deception, God or the other guy?

I think they go to church and speak in tongues. So what? If it works for them, cool. Live and let live.
Some of those people are kinder and more compassionate than people who rip on Christians all the time, call them idiots, morons, and tell them they are unworthy of anything but disrespect, advocate giving them shock therapy, saying they are brainwashed, accusing them of child abuse, etc..
People who do that are rude and unkind.

I think they are very flawed in their understanding of what tongues is.
Next time you talk to one, ask them if Jesus ever spoke in tongues, and if they try to convince you He did, ask for the chapter and verse. Bottom line, most of these folks don't know their Bible very well at all.
Jesus NEVER spoke in tongues if we base it on Scripture. And most of what was written about tongues was to the church in Corinth that was all messed up on the subject.

Going to church doesnt equate speaking in tongues......
nor does speaking in tongues equate going to church......
The bible says they all spoke with tongues as the SPIRIT of GOD gave them utterence..........
Not the spirit of a man made building.........
The Real Church ( Gods Chosen believers ) are leaving the building made with mans hands........
And speaking to God by His Spirit.....
