I'd like to know what makes heresy, heresy. In my opinion, a lot of websites that say that they are Christian-based seem to use heresy to describe almost anything that the website's author disagrees with.
What makes a disagreement or a differing point of view rise to the level of heresy?

Because at this point in my life ...after being saved now he isn't changing much in my life.... I pray and read but nothing happens...then i speak other Christians that say they spent years praying ask god for help in a certain area or praying for something to happen ..... I feel like GOD is not giving me enough reasons to keep on praying and reading..... i mean honestly when i read the bible i feel like its a "Do and dont" list ... its not a story or a letter of LOVE. like some say, i thought GOD was going to give me hope and reasons to live....when in fact he doesnt. Its no diffrent then what i was doing before coming to god....And its like i live in sin and he doesnt protect you or bless you. Or i can NOT live in sin and he MIGHT bless me .. he MIGHT deliver me from a illness ..he MIGHT give me the desires of my heart. its so silly .. i feel like as long as my soul is saved im GOOD to go.

Why do Muslim women get mad when western women are angered by what they perceive as Islam's "oppression" of women? Don't you realize it's mostly fellow "sisters" being upset by poor treatment of Muslim women in Islamic countries?

Our media doesn't tell us, "Oh, look at these stupid, suplicating women who don't stand up for their rights?" They show us atrocities the Taliban have committed against Muslim women! Are you saying "religion police" in some villages do NOT chase women & beat them for not wearing the full burqa or venturing out without a male relative? Are you saying there are NO women who are forbidden an education or a job?

We, in the west, have been brought to tears by media stories of widows who are banned from earning a living to feed their children & are only allowed out when ascorted by a son or a male relative. They suffer, they need help!

Do you not know this or are you saying it's a media fairytale? Many of us just feel for our fellow women.

I was looking on youtube and came across this interesting video which I agree with. It is called "how to convert an atheist"
Part 1: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_rqUsC2KsiI
Part 2: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4qmcOG-na4E&NR=1
It is a video about what an atheist would need to convince them to convert to theism. At the start the presenter requests theists to respond with a similar video about what it would take to convert a theist, but I was unable to find any such reply. So I thought I would open up the question here. All I am interested in hearing is what different theists would require to change their beliefs.

Note: I am not (I repeat NOT) actually interested in converting anyone, so don't take offense to this question. If you do not feel comfortable answering the question, then don't. There is no need to write anything abusive here. There should be no slandering of either belief (theism or atheism) in any of the responses.

Here are a couple of myths I've heard from atheists:

1) The concept of Satan differs drastically from Judiasm and it evolved over time.

The concept of Satan did not evolve over time. Just because Jews do not believe in the same version of Satan does NOT mean that it evolved over time. There is plenty of evidence to actually support the exact opposite. Jews once believed in the same idea of Satan that we do but they fell away.

2) The epic of Gilgamesh records a story about a man being saved in a big flood and just because this supposedly predates Judiasm, this automatically means the story in the Bible borrowed form Sumerian legends.

This is not true. It was actually the other way around. If anything, it actually supports the truth of the Bible because if a world wide flood did happen, you would expect to finds legends ALL over the world and that is EXACTLY what you find.

What do you think?

For anyone who has studied or even read up on Socrates, Plato, Aristotle, Pythagoras up to modern philosophers, do you feel their ideas clash with your religion or do you think the concepts are compatable?

For the non-religious: would you say ideas about ethics and morals can be adequately obtained from philosphy rather than religious doctrine?

He could transubstantiate it after putting it together and BAM you got a Jesus.

Wouldn't that be a better use of the concept than eating him?

I have been pondering this question. When I started here I would have said emphatically no. However I have to confess to a bit of confusion now. The Bible says if we believe in our heart and confess with our mouth that Jesus is Lord we shall be saved. Mormons and JW's freely admit Jesus is Lord. That He is the reason they are saved. Yes their doctrines are different from what I would call mainstream Christianity. But does the doctrine make them not a Christian? We see Jesus different. I see Him as part of the trinity. Mormons say He is a separate God. JW's say he is Michael and the Son of God but not God. Does this matter? Or is the important thing that we all believe He is Lord and saves us?

I would really love some thoughtful answers and not just they are not Christian comments.

Just wondering what everyone's thoughts are on (a) Levay's ego worshippers and (b) followers of the Dark Lord of the Judeo-Christian mythos.

Would you go to a black mass or any kind of satanic ritual if you were invited?
