Jesus is the only reason people can go to heaven. All other religions are about what you can do to earn your way into heaven. Can we really earn our way into heaven?

I would really like to devote my life to christianity, but there is only one problem. I strongly believe that everyone has a right to choose their sexuality. I am not homosexual, but I think it is perfectly fine for anyone to be gay. How am I supposed to devote my life to god if I do not believe in certain things that were written in the bible, which was also only written by an author, not the lord. Any suggestions? Thankyou, and god bless.

I am a believer that there are certain truths out there, bottom lines beyond human perspective if you will. I dont claim to know what they are nor that we as a species will ever know it all nere the less, I think they are there.
So, christians taught me that god is perfect. All powerful, all knowing, etc. I was also tught that the bible being the word of god is perfect as well. Man was in essence the pen god used to write the bible. Now a perfect truth would be unchanging as real today as yesterday and tomorrow. If it was found to be untrue in any circumstance would that not negate the entire concept?
So, throughout the bible are things that have basically expired as humanity progressed. Slavery, stoning people, according to my last question being gay and so on and so forth.
So... what is it then I am not understanding?
Sorry kinda thinking out loud but would appreciate any input etc.

in the late 1970's some bible scholars said at a conference they believed the united states would be destroyed so that Isreal would have to turn back to God for protection

in prophesy, you have europe, asia and the middle east. Does anyone else share that view point. I realize this is more in keeping with those of the chilistic beliefs of the jews and not mainstream, but I ask anyway.

I tried getting at this earlier and provided too much information. People got sidetracked. So trying again.

Catholics if you got up tomorrow and the pope issued a statement and said he had realized through study that purgatory does not exist. Would you accept this? Would you start teaching against it even though today you fully believe it exists? Would you send the pope letters with verses supporting purgatory or just accept it?

If you answer is going to be something along the lines of this would never happen please don't bother answering. I want people who can think hypothetically.

I am really concerned about this. I don't go to church a lot but I think of myself as a good Christian. What do you think? Does God disapprove of people who do not go to church much?

Being "spiritual" is still considered religious for the sake of this question. You either are or you aren't.

1 day is a measurement of time based on the rotation of the earth. How can the bible say that things were created in 7 days before the thing a "day" is measured by doesn't exist yet?

I'm a Christian and I don't judge people. None of the Christians I know judge people. We just worry about the day that other people will be judged by God. It isn't up to us...do what you wanna do. I just don't get why people are so prejudice against us.

Perhapse we are at the center of the universe thanks be to God.
1984, after decades of,,,,,,,Uhm,,,,,, nothing, Seti decides to open up all of their resources to over 3 million home participants, to help search the cosmos and still 'Not even a ping'. Whats up with that?
Dawgonnit! 50+ years of searching the cosmos, a 6.5+ billion year old universe with literally millions of civilizations out there that have come and gone and none!,,,,,,,,, not one,,,, ever sent one single signal? In 6.5 billion years one would think a signal could travel quite a ways. One would think at least a ping would have arrived here by now. Seti and its home project have logged over 160,000 years of computing time making it the largest computation ever done. Ping? If intelligent life here on earth just occured by happenstance, surley it occured all over our galaxy and universe. Or did it? Ping?

Why is that answer acceptable when it comes from God?
I don't mean to ridicule but that answer would not be accepted from human to human.
Maybe thats my problem with the whole idea of "God"..its not even remotely human.

the Father??

The JWs agree that Jesus is a "Mighty God", as Isaiah 9:6 indicates, but they say he is not God Almighty like Jehovah is. Does the fact that Jesus is referred to as a " Mighty God" ???indicate he is lesser God than the Father ( Reasoning from the Scriptures, 1989,413-414 )

For example I am reading about a Bishop of Veracruz who infiltrated the revolutionary army in Mexico and confessed dying soldiers in disguise. He would say, "If there was a priest around, would you confess to him?"

also when he was discovered, he was ordered to be execuited for suspicion of being a spy. His last wish before being shot was to eat a piece of bread. When they brought him one he asked for another. So they asked him, why he is so hungry. He told the "comandante", it is because he is a musician and he had to sell his instrument for food. So they asked him whathe plays, he said evrything, trumpet, piano, violin (which was true). So they walked over to an instrument store across the street and gave him an accordion. he played it so well that the liutenant was very impresssed and brought him that night to the bars and "less than holy places" to play and sing. After he was finished, the liutenant was drunk and told him,
