No I didn't accept that from my mother. I kept saying "but why, but why, but why, but why, but why" until she told me to just go away. I also don't accept the "god did it" answer. It's just not good enough and it never will be.

As a child, I did NOT like that kind of answer, but I KNEW that that was the final last word.
As a parent, I realize that sometimes that's GOT to be the final word when a child is unreasonable and simply WILL not obey.
If we would do what is right and simply obey God's Law, that would be sufficient, just like when I was a child, if I had simply obeyed my parents, that would have been sufficient.
But, as I pointed out, for stubborn rebellious children who can not be reasoned with, the argument MUST stop somewhere, and the parent (or God), being the higher (highest) authority, MUST eventually put his foot down and say "Because I said so, now quit arguing and go to bed!" or "Because I said so, now do your homework!" or whatever the child is being stubborn over.
I hate to resort to "Because I say so" but there have been times that I just absolutely had to.

I was given this answer many times. At times, my Mom was incorrect. She is a human & makes some mistakes. Jehovah God is my Heavenly Father. What He tells me come from His word, the Bible. I will trust in Him & apply to the best of my ability His written word.

Coming from a parent, the Appeal to Authority may not be right in the moral sense; but it is (at least temporarily) utterly practical from the viewpoint of both parent and child.
Then again, practicality is one of many good qualities that god doesn't often display.

When I was young, I didn't consider "Because I said so" a good enough answer. Now that I'm an adult, though, I understand why she said it and why it is sometimes necessary.

What's even worse with religion, God does not says "Cause I said so....", someone else (a priest or a religious leader of some sort) says "Cause 'God' says so".
