I would really like to devote my life to christianity, but there is only one problem. I strongly believe that everyone has a right to choose their sexuality. I am not homosexual, but I think it is perfectly fine for anyone to be gay. How am I supposed to devote my life to god if I do not believe in certain things that were written in the bible, which was also only written by an author, not the lord. Any suggestions? Thankyou, and god bless.

There are different "flavors" of Christianity.

Some, for instance, feel the Earth was created in precisely 7 days (or 6, depending on whether or not you count the day of rest), whereas others feel this is metaphorical, and actually represents potentially eons, that God, in essense, used evolution as His tool, or another way of saying it, he created the universe slowly and methodotically.

Also, if you were to take the bible 100% literally, that also would mean you can't, for instance, interact with a woman on her period, or that it is your obligation to stone adulturers. Things like that. Just how literally do you want to take the Bible?

Personally, I think it should be a matter of sitting down and seeing what feels right to you, and praying to God to ask Him to help. If you honestly feel that homosexuality is ok (I do, too :P), then that's ok. Focus on the truth and good of the Bible, and ignore the inconsistacies, hypocrisies, and cruelties, and intolerance therein. That is, I understand, what it takes to be Christian.

Devote your life to God, through Jesus Christ and you become a Christian. As you grow in your walk with God, you will find out about the other things along the way. As far as The Bible being only written by an author, maybe you should check out the book of 1 Peter Chapter 1 verse 19 to 21. We still should remember that God spoke to His people by way of The Prophets. What the Scribes-people that were trained in the writing of the day, comparable to our modern day stenographers, wrote down have in fact become our Bible. The Bible is really a compilation of the events of history and the pertinent things that God wants us to know about. God inspires. That's where our drive and dreams and motivations come from.God giving us a push in the right direction. If God is pushing you in His direction, by all means follow and boo on any one that tries to deter you.

P.S. I could give you those specific Scriptures that talk about that stuff but how 'bout you just take it one step at a time, huh?

God Bless you and Keep you in Jesus' Name!

I don't really have an exact answer to your question but I do have a comment. I think that the Bible was written by God. In a way at least. The bible was God inspired everything that God wanted to be in it was in it. He inspired the authors to write exactly what He wanted them to write. Think about it for a minute, all of the prophets never met each other. They never sat down and decided 'this is what we should say the 'Lord' say.s It was really from God. So, yeah, that is something to consider as you wait for God to reveal Himself to you.

You can still believe in God without believing in the Bible-- as you said, the Bible was written by man and not by the Lord Himself. I highly doubt that God would hate you for the way that He made you.

Also, many churches are just fine with homosexuality, you just have to look around to find one.

Many people will oppose me on this but people don't realise that you can be a good Christian without believing everything the Bible says. Keep in mind one of my best friends is devout Christian and I am a Pagan, and she hasn't tried to kill me as far as "Thou shalt not suffer a witch to live".

Do you think Jesus would have driven away a follower who was homosexual? Your god knows what's in your heart, and that's all that really matters - certainly not the ramblings of some bronze-age folks who likewise considered shellfish an abomination. Jesus commanded his followers to love god, and to love one another - Jesus never said a single word about homosexuality, and I challenge anybody here to present scripture to the contrary. Note that the the Old Testament and Paul's ramblings don't count, as neither are the words of the one you folks call Christ.

The phrase "neither do I condemn thee" comes to mind...

ADDENDUM: dreamdress2, do you work on the sabbath? Do you wear garments of mixed wool and linen? How about eating pork, shrimp, lobster, and other shellfish? Do you stone wiches to death with rocks? Or do YOU pick and choose as well? Maybe you should take a good long look in the mirror, provided you don't first break it with the beam lodged in your eye.

You can still believe in Jesus and have certain beliefs, even if they are wrong in the Bible. Now, to explain myself. You need to have the Holy Spirit show you what is right and wrong. This is what He is good at doing. He will make it very clear to you as to why the Bible and God is against certain sexualities. It is not that the people are bad, it is the sin and sin destroys people's lives. This is why we are not suppose to sin, it makes life miserable for us. God wants us to have a good and healthy life, sin is the opposite. As Christians we are suppose to take a stand on all sin. God lets us have free will to decide what we want for ourself, but to have a fulfilling life He wants us to follow His ways, He knows what is best, Just like a dad teaching a small child. We are his little children and He knows what is right for each of us. Just follow Jesus, the Holy Spirit will help you along your way. God Bless you too.

many people in the glbt community have tried to change through therapy or even prayer unsuccessfully. I don't personally believe in god, but I believe if he does exist, he created us this way, so their HAS to be a reason for it. If that is true, then god can't possibly despise gay people for enjoying their lives can he?

that's just my opinion, hope it helps!

I understand there are gay people who consider themselves faithful christians. I don't know how they pull this off; it would give me a perpetual headache.

Then again, I don't understand how any woman can bear to set foot in a church or mosque or synagogue, or allow her children to frequent such ghastly places. So I guess I'm not the right person to answer this question.

I suggest repenting and doing the red letters and other concepts communicated by the Bible regardless of this particular belief, to pray about this belief and to ask God to show you what is (be that what you already believe or not). Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me. "If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our abode with him. Do not complain, brethren, against one another, so that you yourselves may not be judged; behold, the Judge is standing right at the door.

I'm Christian and I do not believe homosexuality is necessarily wrong. There are many things in the bible in which we don't follow or have to believe in. Sexual orientation should not be something you're worried about. It is not your duty to judge your neighbor, it's God's.
