perhaps it is more accurate to say that some people (certainly Americans but perhaps others) have a narrow definition of "Asian". When they think "Asian" they think "Asian-American"..."Oriental" is sometimes (innacurately) used as a synonym. In other words, they think of what we call "Asian" food and what people label themselves (or get labeled) as Asian...and in America, that's primarily what's sometimes called the "far east" (China, Japan, Korea, etc...). Many Americans see a distinction between different regions of the continent of Asia...people from Israel are "Middle Eastern" not "Asian".

You are correct of course, but in cross-cultural communication it is important to remember that even people in a single country can attach different meanings to words. In some parts of the US, the evening meal is "supper" while "dinner" is the noon meal...in others, "dinner" is the evening meal and the noon meal is "lunch". Your comment certainly wasn't worth a thumb's down, but I can understand why some people would interpret your use of the term "Asian" (combined with your name) as an incorrect statement suggesting Jesus shared the racial characteristics of people in China/Japan/etc... instead of what he really shared and that was the racial characteristics of the Hebrew population and other Middle Eastern people.

I think people just like to create their gods in their own image. So Jesus is a white European/American looking fellow.

I didn't know, though, that Isreal is considered Asian. I thought it was Middle Eastern. I have to admit, we have a pretty poor sense of geography in America. Many Americans don't even know where a lot of the American states are on a map.

At the time of his birth it wasn't Asia. So therefore only true Asians were born in Asia after it was named Asia. Jesus was Jewish. By the way I'm white and if I was born in Asia and said I was Asian that would be a misrepresentation because I am caucasian. What race you are depends on your genetics. What country you live in does not.

I'm not sure what the point of the original question was. What difference should it make to anyone what Jesus looked like?
