I'd like to know what makes heresy, heresy. In my opinion, a lot of websites that say that they are Christian-based seem to use heresy to describe almost anything that the website's author disagrees with.
What makes a disagreement or a differing point of view rise to the level of heresy?

Heresy is the obstinate denial after Baptism of a truth which must be believed with divine and Catholic faith. (Canon 751)

Only a Catholic can be a heretic to Catholicism.

A Jew or Muslim cannot be a heretic to Christianity.

This is similar in that only a citizen of the United States can be a traitor to the United States.

A citizen of the France cannot be a traitor to the United States.

Heresy means that one take part of an existing theological philosoply and uses it to their own benefit. By grouping this extracted ideas into another philosophy, it is just that, another philosophy. If you use this "new" understanding and create a congregation that contradicts the first theological philosophy, then you got yourself a full-blown heresy. Mohammad basically took the Roman Catholic philosophy, eliminated the clerical hierarchy and with it the sacraments and denied the divinity of Jesus Christ. By definition, he had himself a heresy. Among the conquered, he also created a new economic climate by elimination usury, forgiving debt, and eliminating lawyers, thus allowing one to go directly to the judges for justice. He also let people keep their beliefs, but he taxed them. He really had a sharp ideas that gathered many followers. Pretty smart prophet, I'd say.

Heresy is a Blaspheming against God and only God, But it could take the form of say ..leading someone away from god by incorrect statements or lies, Churches which as we know are human inventions so as to gather as many people as possible in the one place to hear YOUR point of view . Remember as long as you do not Blaspheme or tell lies about our Creator God then you are not a heretic it is only their opinion because they do not like you knocking their church or group...Which are all False anyway, You are a Great and Good person and you have proven it by seeking ..The Truth

Heresy means lies against the church - but in the wider context, it includes ideas that the church does not want to hear. Galileo was a heretic, because he concluded that the Earth rotated around the sun, not the other way around as the church believed. Darwin was a heretic, because his concept of natural selection went against the teachings of the church.

Heresies usually stem from an incorrect understanding of the nature of God (i.e. Christ) or the denial or corruption of the written word of God(i.e. Bible)

i think that you mean hearsay which is word of mouth etc and not necessarily fact. different people believe in diferent things and should be able to back up what they are saying with what they believe is evidence.
