If you're talking about a deity of sorts then we'd be agnostics and not atheists. But I'll answer your question and I'll ask you something similar: Can you accept that there MAY not be an omnipotent deity that created the universe.
Having said that I don't believe for two specific reasons.
The first is I have yet to see any proof that this gawd thing exists. Until I see actual proof there's nothing you could say that would convince me otherwise.
The second is that it's too simple, easy and superstitious to be real.

I do accept the possibility that there MAY be "something more powerful than humans" (which I'm assuming means "god"). I'm open to that possibility. But I just flat out don't believe that there is a god. Just because someone is an atheist doesn't mean they aren't open to the possibility that there is a god of some kind. If you asked the flip-side of that question to a bunch of Christians I doubt you'd get the same openness.

I can accept the possibility, however remote, that there is a God or something more powerful than humans. But I don't have any reason at all to think that this higher power is knowable or concerned with human affairs. And whether the higher power is nonexistent or unknowable, the implications for my life are the same because it would be equally pointless to try to worship or appeal to that higher power.

I am absolutely something more powerful than humans, in fact there are more powerful creatures on our very planet. We don't believe that there are supernatural entities that are omnipotent that create us out of dust and a rib and that if we live exactly how they want us to live, that when we die we'll be taken into some fantasy-land forever and ever.
I believe that there are aliens out there that are far superior to humans. Heck they may even have came to our planet millions of years ago and deposited our DNA here in order to create us. I mean its about the same thing as what the bible says. But my "concept" of intelligent design is written off as ridiculous.

More powerful than humans? Atheism isn't the belief that humans are powerful. There are certainly other animals out there more powerful than we are.
But you're asking why I don't believe in a deity. There are two simple answers:
1: there is no evidence for a deity, yet there is plenty of evidence for alternative explanations.
2: A deity simply isn't necessary, since there are far more logical explanations for... well, everything.

Who ever said that? There's room in our view of reality for things more powerful than humans. Right now, there just isn't any evidence to prove that any of them exist. You bring me what you call a living god, and I'll show you some paper with some words on it. Bring me the real thing and I just might agree with you.

There are more things powerful than humans, like tornados, hurricans, other natural disasters, tigers, lions, oceans, etc. That's a little shallow of you to think that we don't give the proper respect to things greater than us. Quit belittling and go pray or something.

I accept that nature is greater than human beings. 90% of species that were alive centuries ago are now extinct. I also believe the weather is another example of what's powerful than human beings. But if you're referring to something like a god and the aspect of a hell, I doubt it.
